Lightning Returns: FF13 – Wildlands side quests, Temple of the Goddess, sheep quests, chocobo riding

The Wildlands chapter of Lightning Returns is stuffed with side quests. Our walkthrough will help you finish off every last one of them.

Just like the earlier chapters of Lightning Returns, the third section of the game is stuffed with plenty of side quests. From harvesting crops to rounding up sheep, you'll want to take in as many of these fun activities as possible before moving onto the fourth and final chapter. Beyond the usual rewards of cash and boosted stats, one of these quests also permanently increases the number of Recovery Items you can carry - worth grabbing before you make your way through the game's conclusion.

Wildlands side quest walkthrough

A Father's Request

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Sarala
Location:The western part of Canopus Farms
Available:Between the hours of 7am and 9pm
Prerequisite:Must have begun Saving An Angel
Rewards:800 Gil, Girlish Glasses, Max HP +80, Strength +4, Magic +8

You need to be on the Saving An Angel quest to pick up this one as well. Once you've done so, head over to Sarala in Canopus Farms to get the Gysahl Greens which you should then feed to the chocobo. When you've done that, speak to Sarala again to begin the quest proper.

You'll find the Wandering Man by the southern part of the road leading to Jagd Village. Go and gather a Forest Fertilizer, then go back and speak to the Wandering Man before heading back to see Sarala. You'll not only get the quest reward for handing over the Forest Fertilizer, you'll also be able to grow Gysahl Greens by talking to her again.

A Final Cure

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Cardesia
Location:Just by the Outfitter found in Jagd Village
Available:Between the hours of 8am and 10pm
Prerequisite:Must have started the Saving An Angel quest
Rewards:1,600 Gil, Suspicious Mushroom, Toxic Mushroom, Max HP +80, Magic +12

We hope you're in the mood for a collection quest, because Cardesia certainly wants a thing or two from you. All of the Chocoborel you need to find can be located in the vicinity of the Jagd Woods, but only between the hours of 6am and 6pm. While you're out in the woods, make sure you kill enough Rafflesia monsters to get your hands on the Slug Sweets you also need.

You'll also want to get your hands on a few other items to keep Cardesia happy, so don't head back to town just yet. Grab four Luminous Mushrooms found in the same location as the Chocobore (albeit between the hours of 6pm and 6am this time around). You also want to get hold of a single Crimm Mushroom, available between the hours of 7pm and 7am in the Moogle Village.

Once you've gathered up all of these items, go back and talk to Cardesia, and finish up all of the conversations while handing over the items she wants. Once you've finished chatting, you'll get your hands on your well-earned quest rewards.

A Taste Of The Past

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Chef Aryas
Location:Aryas Village
Available:Between the hours of 9am and 10pm
Prerequisite:Must have finished Saving An Angel
Rewards:1,200 Gil, Ripe Apple, Crystal Apple, Mystical Meal, Max HP +80, Strength +2, Magic +6

If you've got a suitably well-fed chocobo, one that's capable of gliding breezily through the air, go and talk to Chef Aryas and request the Legendary Recipe. You'll need to go and collect a few items once you've done this. The two Aryas Apples you need can be found in any lofty places to the east and west of the village, while the Moles can be found pretty much anywhere in the Rocky Crag region. Once you've gathered up every last ingredient, head back to the Chef to get your rewards.

Chocobo Cheer

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:Nadia
Location:Jagd Village
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished Saving An Angel
Rewards:300 Gil, Golden Flower, Chocobo Chick, Max HP +80, Magic +6

Once you've picked this quest up, hop on your chocobo and journey into the north-western section of the Jagd Woods. Once you've found and examined the Yeul's Flower closely, ride back into town and talk to Nadia to hand in the quest.

Dog, Doctor And Assistant

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:Thirteen
Location:Research Camp
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished Saving An Angel
Rewards:500 Gil, Orange Newsboy Cap, Animal Potion, Max HP +40, Strength +2, Magic +4

Thirteen's got a big collection quest for you to get stuck into here. First things first, the Moonsoul Blooms and Dayring Blossoms are available all over the region, but at different times. You can get the former between the hours of 6pm and 6am, while the latter can only be gathered between 6am and 6pm.

To get hold of the Goopy Goo, you're going to need to do battle with the Triffids, which can also be found randomly in the local vicinity. Once you've gathered up everything you need, go back and speak to Tilda who's standing next to Thirteen. Once you've delivered all of the items, talk to her again, and then travel back to Canopus Farms to speak with Thirteen once more (now known as Claudia).

Fuzzy Search

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:Dr Sheep
Location:In Aryas Village, by the sheep pen
Available:After Day 1, between the hours of 6am and 6pm
Prerequisite:None
Rewards:400 Gil, Fuzzy Sheep Figurine, Canned Sheep Logo, Fuzzy Sheep Milk, Max HP +40, Strength +6

Once the quest intro cut-scene's out of the way, you're going to need to round up a total of three sheep. Either use your chocobo to steer the sheep in the right direction, or draw Lightning's weapon menacingly to get them into position. Once they've all been gathered together, talk to Dr Sheep again to get your rewards.

Killing Time

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:None
Location:Poltae
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished Saving An Angel
Rewards:100 Gil, White Chocobo Figurine, Max HP +30, Magic +3

This is one of the easiest side quests you'll come across in the Wildlands. Simply arrive at the Poltae map marker you're given during the main quest, and this companion quest will also be completed at the same time.

Use our side quest walkthroughs to stay one step ahead of the game's ever-ticking clock.

Land Of Our Forebears

Difficulty:3 Stars
Begins:Chef Aryas
Location:Aryas Village
Available:Between the hours of 9am and 10pm
Prerequisite:Must have finished The Old Man And The Field (see below)
Rewards:3,500 Gil, Pink-rimmed Glasses, Max HP +150, Strength +12, Magic +10

As soon as you approach Chief Aryas you'll kick off a cut-scene. Once it's over, you'll need to go and speak to the Grumpy Old Man over at the Research Camp. After that, head towards Canopus Farms and talk to Sarala. When you've finished talking to her, go back to Aryas Village and talk to the Chef again to get your quest reward.

Matchmaker

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Tilda
Location:Research Camp
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished Dog, Doctor And Assistant and Round 'Em Up quests
Rewards:1,600 Gil, Yellow Ribbon, Max HP +80, Strength +8, Magic +6

You need to gather up no small number of items for Tilda in order to complete this side quest. The Rocky Crag Moles you need can be found - unsurprisingly - in the Rocky Crag region, the Green Leather drops from the Goblin monsters dotted around the Eremite Plains, while the Moonsoul Blooms can be found all over the region, but only between the hours of 6pm and 6am.

Once you've collected all of these items, deliver them all to Tilda, then head over to Aryas Village and speak to Dr Sheep to get your goodies.

Mercy Of A Goddess

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Taleb
Location:By the Poltae inn
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished A Final Cure
Rewards:1,600 Gil, Delicious Mushroom, Max HP +80, Strength +8

Once you've picked this quest up from Taleb in Poltae, make your way over to Jagd Village and talk to Cardesia. You'll need to ask to hear her story, before delivering the quest items back to Poltae. Just be aware that you only have 45 minutes in-game to actually make this delivery, so use your Chronostasis ability if you get waylaid on the return journey. After you arrive in town, hand the goods in to Taleb to finish things up.

Mother And Daughter

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Brella
Location:Near the station exit
Available:Between the hours of 6am and 10pm
Prerequisite:Must have finished Saving An Angel
Rewards:1,200 Gil, Leopard Tail, Max HP +80, Strength +6, Magic +4

This side quest is rather peculiarly wrapped around another one. Pick this up from Brella, then finish the Dog, Doctor, And Assistant quest. When you've done this, talk to Brella again and pick up some very easy quest rewards.

Omega Point

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Research Leader
Location:At the platform in the Research Camp
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished 3-2 of the main quest
Rewards:1,600 Gil, Aerial Guard's Badge, Max HP +80, Strength +4, Magic +6

Time to take your chocobo for a gliding lesson. Once you've spoken to the Research Leader, you'll be given an item that can be used at the following locations:

  • The elevated section in the south-west section of Eremite Plains.
  • By the crashed ship to the north of Eremite Plains.
  • In the north-east section of Eremite Plains.
  • At the top of a pillar in the north-west section of Eremite Plains.
  • The elevated section in the centre of Eremite Plains.

Just be aware that you only need to use the item in four of these specific locations, so don't worry if you're struggling to find the fifth. Once you've used the item, head back to the Research Camp and talk to the Research Leader to hand in the quest.

Peace And Quiet, Kupo

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:Mog
Location:Moogle Village
Available:Between the hours of 7pm and 7am
Prerequisite:None
Rewards:555 Gil, Mog Figurine, Moogle Fragment, Max HP +60, Strength +7, Magic +7, Recovery Item Capacity +1

First of all, you'll have to go an investigate the Moogles found in the centre of Moogle village just to get hold of the quest. You'll then need to face off against three Dryad enemies, one after another. These enemy types are very vulnerable to your fire-based attacks, so gear up accordingly before you start. Once that's done, go back to the centre of the village, watch the cinematic play out, talk to Mog, and then follow him to his new location. Speak to him again to finish up the quest.

Round 'Em Up

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Millie
Location:At the Aryas Village sheep corral
Available:Between the hours of 6am and 6pm
Prerequisite:Must have finished Fuzzy Search
Rewards:1,200 Gil, Cowboy Hat, Creamy Sheep Milk, Max HP +80, Strength +8, Magic +6

This fun quest has you rounding up the sheep in Aryas Village. Walk towards the sheep corral to start a cut-scene. Now look for the large sheep in each pack, and lead each one back into their pen. After getting all of these sheep in their pens, go and talk to Dr. Sheep, then speak to Millie to hand the quest in and get your reward.

Do finish Peace And Quiet, Kupo before leaving the region. The boost to your recovery item capacity is very handy indeed.

Saving An Angel

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Dr Gysahl
Location:Towards the centre of Canopus Farms
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished 3-1 of the main quest
Rewards:1,200 Gil, White Chocobo Chick, Max HP +80, Strength +8, Magic +8

After speaking to Dr Gysahl you'll be shown a cinematic. Talk to the doctor again to get the actual quest started, one that'll have you racing all over town to get some yummy food for your chocobo. Here's how to get your hands on every last ingredient:

  • The Chocobull can be got from the Hunter Chief located to the west of Canopus Farms.
  • The Fuzzy Sheep Milk can be purchased from Canopus Farms innkeeper.
  • The Gysahl Greens can be purchased from Sarala, the red-headed lady found to the west of Canopus Farms.

Once you've finished gathering up these food items, travel to Jagd Woods and speak to the Hunter Hopeful to start a side quest called The Right Stuff. Once you've finished that up, you'll be given an item called Mystical Meal which needs to be taken back to Canopus Farms. Once there, feed this magical meal to your chocobo in order to finish the quest.

The Grail Of Valhalla

Difficulty:3 Stars
Begins:Professor Lathom
Location:By the Poltae inn
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:None
Rewards:3,800 Gil, Crest of Etro, Sacred Knight garb, Max HP +150, Strength +10, Magic +16

Once you've picked up this quest from Professor Lathom, you'll need to go to the Temple of the Goddess and explore it until you've investigated the two special plaques. Once you've done so, head back to Poltae and speak to the professor to hand over the copies of these plaques. You'll be tasked with hunting down another four of them - here's where you'll find them:

  • At the top of the ladder found at the northern section of Poltae.
  • The platform section just to the north of the little chasm in Poltae.
  • The platform section just to the west of the same chasm.
  • Around the path at the southern end of Poltae.

You'll now find Professor Lathom standing near this final location. Talk to him to hand over all of the new copies you've discovered and complete the quest.

The Hunter's Challenge

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Hunter Chief
Location:By the Jagd Village Outfitter
Available:Between the hours of 8pm and 8am
Prerequisite:Must have finished The Right Stuff (see below)
Rewards:1,200 Gil, Golden Insignia, Soldier of Peace, Max HP +80, Strength +8, Magic +4

Getting your hands on these quest rewards is no mean feat, and you'll have to take on an assortment of enemies to get hold of the drops you need. First of all, go and beat up some Vali in the Jagd Woods or Grasslands to loot the Monster Mince items. Now you'll need to get your hands on an AMP Chip, something you can only get by beating the Aster Protoflorian located in the Rocky Crag region.

The Vali fights won't give you any headaches, but it's worth keeping a few things in mind for the Aster Protoflorian fights. First of all, the enemy's Exoproofing ability changes its elemental weakness, and will also allow it to absorb the damage of a single element. Once you've worked out the enemy's current vulnerability, and got it into a Stagger position, keep attacking with that element as hard and as fast as you can. Once you've got all of your items, head back to Hunter Chief to get your rewards.

The Old Man And The Field

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:Stubborn Old Man
Location:Research Camp
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished A Father's Request and have harvested one crop of Gysahl Greens
Rewards:500 Gil, Yellow-rimmed Glasses, Max HP +40, Strength +6

Time for a little horticulture. First, pick up two Vegetable Seeds, and then speak to the Stubborn Old Man. Plant your seeds where you can, and then wait until 12 hours of in-game time have passed - they need a little bit of time to grow, after all. Wait until you've grown some Gysahl Greens, then go back to the Research Camp and harvest the Tantal Greens. Now talk to the Stubborn Old Man again, and use the Gysahl Greens you've already picked up to complete the quest straight away.

The Right Stuff

Difficulty:1 Star
Begins:Hunter Hopeful
Location:The south-western entrance to Jagd Woods
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have started Saving An Angel
Rewards:300 Gil, Chocobo Feather Pin, Mystical Meal, Max HP +40, Strength +4, Magic +2

Keep an eye out for any Miniflans you stumble across in this region, as you're going to need a total of six of the Vibrant Oozes they drop to complete this quest. Once you've got them all, go and talk to the Hunter Hopeful, then hand them over to finish the quest.

The Secret Lives Of Sheep

Difficulty:3 Stars
Begins:Cornelia
Location:The southern part of Aryas Village
Available:Between the hours of 6pm and 6am
Prerequisite:Must have finished Round 'Em Up
Rewards:3,200 Gil, Cool Glasses, Max HP +120, Strength +10, Magic +12

Cornelia's got one very simple challenge for you to complete here, and that's to escort the Fuzzy Sheep all the way to the breeding grounds. That means going on the offensive and taking out any monsters that appear on the path ahead. Once you've arrived at your destination, examine each one until you've got hold of a Mystery Egg.

To Live In Chaos

Difficulty:3 Stars
Begins:Brella
Location:Wildlands station
Available:N/A
Prerequisite:Must have finished 3-3 of the main quest
Rewards:4,200 Gil, Odin's Horn, Gagnrad, Max HP +150, Strength +16, Magic +12

You'll need a fully healed-up chocobo before you can get stuck into this quest, and you'll also need to have finished up 3-3 of the main quest in the region. Once you've done that, go to the Canvas of Prayers to pick it up, then head to Canopus Farms after watching the cut-scene with Brella. Talk to Dr Gysahl to start the quest, then enter the Chaos and finish the fight with the Chocobo Eater.

Where Are You, Moogle?

Difficulty:2 Stars
Begins:Moggel
Location:Moogle Village
Available:Between the hours of 7pm and 7am
Prerequisite:Must have finished Peace And Quiet, Kupo
Rewards:1,300 Gil, Mog Mask, Retro Mog Mask, Max HP +80, Strength +6, Magic +8

Moggle wants you to find three of his Moogle friends in this side quest - just be aware that they can only be located between the hours of 6pm and 6am. Once you're in the right time-zone, go and find them all at these locations:

  • The first open region in Jagd Woods.
  • The path that's just between the fourth and fifth open regions in Jagd Woods.
  • The northern section of Jagd Village.
