Lords of the Fallen - Shard of the Heroes, key, Kaslo, Ghost Merge Shard
A complete walkthrough for the opening section of Lords of the Fallen, from locating the key you need to preparing for your first boss fight.
As soon as you've completed the first tutorial fight against the Rhogar Marauder, make your way upstairs and talk to Kaslo. Speak to him about opening the door to move the story forwards, then head to the right of the character and grab the audio note.
Opening the door
Now go downstairs and pass through the door on your right. Kill the enemy you encounter, then carry on down the corridor until you come to another creature. When it's dead, go left and all the way around the upper floor. It's not necessary to kill the enemies lurking down the stairs and to the left, but you can if you want to get hold of some extra combat experience. Finally, go all the way around the balcony and kill the Infested waiting at the end.
Grab the audio note after you've killed the monster, then turn all the way around and go into the room to your left. Kill the enemy here, grab the next audio note, then veer right to find a set of stairs. Go down them, then enter the cellar and kill the pair of enemies. They can be tough to spot when they're crouched down, but they also can't attack until they're at full height. When they're dead, take the quest key from the end of this hallway, then make your way back upstairs.
At the top of the stairs is a room. To your right is another enemy, while on your left is a portal that you can't use yet. It's activated after killing the First Warden, so remember to come back here and loot the three chests waiting for you on the other side. When you do so, stay out of the darkness while you loot, and be aware that the non-boss creatures will be revived when you leave this instanced area.
Finding the Ghost Merge Shard
For now, go up the stairs that are just right of the portal and kill the Rhogar Marauder. Take a right and pick up the Energy Shard that's by the warrior corpse up ahead. Before speaking to Kaslo, go over to the corner in the far right of this area and note the location of a hanging tapestry. You'll soon pick up the Northern Monastery Wing Door Key, which will allow you to access the hidden hallway here - although you'll need to be wearing light armour to make the jump.
When you have the key and have jumped across, go upstairs and take the Ghost Merge Shard. Carry on up the next set of stairs and jump to the next door. Open the door with the key and take the Shard of the Heroes. If you want to get back to the lower floor again, either jump down and take a bit of damage, or head back the way you came.
If you don't have the key yet, just talk to Kaslo, ask for his help, then go through the door to start your first boss fight!
