Lords of the Fallen - Commander, Marauder, Rogue, Arrowhead, Commander Shield
We've got an essential guide to surviving every one of the Commander's special attacks, and getting your own damage in to finish the fight fast.
Before you begin this fight, be aware that you can interact with the statues on the left-hand side of the battle area to grab their weapons if you've got the Shard of the Heroes on you. If you do so after the boss fight is over, however, you'll be able to do a character respec instead.
How to take down the Commander and chums
The Commander isn't that much trickier than your earlier battle against the First Warden, but you'll need your wits about you nevertheless. Make sure you stay as close to your opponent as possible, and keep circling around him. Don't be too concerned about his shield attacks which stagger you, as he won't follow up with damage.
As soon as you see him lift his shield up, however, move out of the way a bit so you don't get caught up in the shockwave. Go just far enough that you can easily get back into melee range at a moment's notice, and get a couple of good whacks in while your opponent is recovering.
You'll also need to keep an eye out for the shield that's summoned periodically as the fight plays out. When the Commander is covered in this magical defence, you'll have to deal with the enemy that spawns. In the first instance, the new fighter will be a Marauder, in the second it's a Rogue, and then the third time brings both thugs charging at you. When you're fighting both, focus on taking down the deadlier Marauder first.
Every now and then the Commander will also point his sword and shoot magical energy from it. If you've followed our advice, and maintained a circle-strafing position with the boss, you should have no trouble avoiding the impact of this special attack.
Once you've killed the boss, make sure you loot the Arrowhead weapon, Commander Shield, and the Sealed Rune (big). Make your way back to the previous checkpoint and save, before heading to the opposite side of the boss area and going upstairs. You'll trigger a cut-scene as you do so, taking you to the Temple Guardians and finding the Bloody Flint.
