Majora's Mask revival teased in New Smash Bros. Assist Trophy
Note its easter egg in A Link Between Worlds too.
For years Zelda fans have been clamouring for a Majora's Mask remake, especially since we've recently seen remakes of Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker, yet Nintendo has never acknowledged if it's working on reviving the property. Unfortunately, that's still the case, but the Kyoto-based company has added its latest tease to the mix.
New Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai's has posted a very pretty picture of Majora's Mask antagonist, Skull Kid, to his Miiverse, noting that it will be an Assist Trophy in the upcoming fighting game.
"I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter," he clarified. So don't get too excited.
In a vacuum this doesn't mean much, but when asked about a Majora's Mask remake at New York Comic-Con in October, Zelda head honcho Eiji Aonuma said "If you play A Link Between Worlds, you may get an answer. You might find some information." This ended up only being a cute easter egg in Link's house/the item shop, but it could also be construed as a sign that Nintendo is keenly aware of the demand to spruce up Majora's Mask for a re-release.
Of course, Nintendo is adamant that it doesn't let fans tell it what to do, so it's anyone's guess whether the company will actually follow through on the demand they know is there.
