Mirror's Edge, Dead Space sequels likely
John Riccitiello sings IPs' praises.
EA has let the birds fly on a brand new Dead Space and Mirror's Edge game.
Silver-haired EA boss John Riccitiello has hinted that more Dead Space and Mirror's Edge games are likely to appear."We're very pleased with a lot of our new franchises this year. Spore... [looks like an] ongoing franchise, Dead Space looks like a long-term big winner for us... Warhammer will continue to perform very well," said John Riccitiello in a financial call, listened to by Gamasutra.
"Mirror's Edge was very strongly reviewed - That one's going to go forward. We'll be looking at some issues around the design to make sure that strong IP is married with strong business."
EA turned over a new leaf after John Riccitiello rejoined the company in early 2007. His message was clear: quality over quantity.
So far the strategy has paid off with releases such as Mirror's Edge and Left 4 Dead. The publisher has also looked to snap up floundering titles from celebrated developers and grind them into shape.
Of the EA stable, only familiars FIFA 09 and Need For Speed cut the top 10 mustard this week. Left 4 Dead disappeared from the top 40 and Mirror's Edge placed way down at 39.
Perhaps the world needs more sports.
