Monster Hunter Tri tops Japanese chart
Wii sales rocket following game's release.
Monster Hunter Tri has proved enormously popular in Japan, with 520,000 copies sold over two days.
Wii sales soared as a result of the game's release, climbing around 300 per cent to 95,357, according to Media Create data (translated by Kotaku).
Monster Hunter's rampage pushes previous Japanese chart leader Dragon Quest IX to two, although the Square Enix game maintains impressive momentum with 180,000 sales. As does the DS, which combines DSi and DS Lite to muster 85,737 sales for the week ending 2nd August.
Gears of War 2 makes a Japanese entrance at six with an admirable 49,000 units sold. But Xbox 360 remains bottom of the pile with 3552 consoles sold.
Other newcomers are Puyo Puyo 7 (DS) at five, CR Shinseiki Evangelion: Saigo no Mono (PS2) at seven, Armored Core 3 Portable (PSP) at eight and To Heart 2 Portable (PSP) at 10.
In hardware, the PSP finishes a distant third with 33,049 sales, followed by PS3 with 8760 sales and PS3 with 3617 sales.
