Monster Hunter World's first big expansion is unveiled
Iceborne coming next autumn - after Geralt comes to the base game.
Monster Hunter World's first big expansion has been announced, and it's the equivalent to the older 'G' or 'Ultimate' editions. Named as Iceborn, it'll arrive as an add-on to the base game next autumn.
Iceborne will introduce a new quest rank, new monsters and new areas, and feature a story that carries on from where Monster Hunter World left off. Series head Ryozo Tsujimoto said the expansion would be similar in size to older 'G' or 'Ultimate' editions. More information on Iceborne will be shared in the spring.
Before that, though, there's plenty more planned for Monster Hunter World, with the headline being the addition of The Witcher 3's Geralt of Rivia early next year. New voice lines have been supplied by Doug Cockle for the English version, while other languages are also getting new lines recorded by their respective versions (though I'm not sure who's doing the honours for the Geralt of Rivia who's speaking Monster Hunter language - something that's confirmed will also be happening when the star of CD Projekt's RPG arrives).
There are also some new(ish) monsters inbound, with Kulve Taroth returning in Arch-Tempered form from December 19th through to January 3rd, and with an Arch-Tempered Nergigante coming next spring as the last of the updates for the base game. It's worth noting the dates for these updates pertain to the console version of the game, with the PC updates due to follow in their wake.
The release of Arch-Tempered Nergigante will mark the end of an impressive level of support from Capcom for the base Monster Hunter World, and for what was already an impressive game. If you're keen to see what the fuss is about, a free trial version that lets you play up to Hunter Rank 4 - with your progress carrying over into the full game should you want to invest - will be live from December 11th through to December 17th.
