Netflix subscription rising to £6.99 in the UK
Existing members get the old price for two more years.
Streaming service Netflix is raising its subscription fee by £1 to £6.99 per month in the UK.
But existing members will keep their old £5.99 price for two years, subscribers were informed via email last night.
Netflix is similarly raising its subscription fee in the US (by $1) and in Europe (by €1). The money will be ploughed back into new programming.
"In order to continue adding more films and TV programmes, we are increasing our price from £5.99 to £6.99 for new members," the company wrote.
"As a thank you for being a member of Netflix already, we guarantee that your plan and price will not change for two years."
Netflix now has an app on pretty much every console available - PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, as well as versions for Android and iOS devices, Macs and PCs.
