New Tomb Raider film reboot coming 2013
From producers of The Town, Rango.
A new Tomb Raider film has been agreed to by Square Enix.
It's billed as a reboot, reports Variety, and aims for a 2013 big-screen release.
No actors, writers or directors are linked with the new film yet.
GK Films will produce the picture, and counts past production posts on Ben Affleck's brilliant The Town, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie double-header The Tourist, and imminent animated film Rango, which also stars handsome mister Depp.
"We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon," said GK Films' Graham King.
Speaking of Angelina Jolie, she was the lady who last brought Lara Croft to life at the cinema, starring in two Paramount films: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003).
The reboot idea extends to the new game that Square Enix announced in December. This goes right back to the start of Lara's career as a tomb raider, as she - a young lady with "baby fat" - is washed up on an island and has only one objective in mind: survival.
