New Warhammer 40K MMO announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One
Made by Naughty Bear developer Behaviour, believe it or not.
Sheesh, Games Workshop doesn't hang around - a brand new Warhammer 40,000 MMO has been announced, this time for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
The previous Warhammer 40K MMO, Dark Millennium, ran aground at THQ causing hefty lay-offs.
This new MMO is Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, made by Behaviour Interactive (formerly Artificial Mind and Movement) and due late in 2015. Behaviour made 7/10 action game Wet and 4/10 obscenity Naughty Bear.
It's a Canadian studio that's plied a trade since '92 in movie tie-ins and making the 'other versions' of multiplatform games. Despite that, Behaviour apparently employs close to 300 people - so says its website. Does it therefore have the clout to pull-off a multi-platform MMO despite no apparent prior experience in the genre?
There's no mention of a publisher either - ambitious is probably an understatement.
If Behaviour does pull it off then Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade will be a third-person action-slanted MMO. There's a persistent war going on and you'll need to pick your side as either a Space Marine, Chaos Space Marine, Ork or Eldar and join in. Each faction fights for control of an entire planet.
A press release mentioned simultaneous battles for thousands of players and the ability to get into iconic W40K vehicles such as the Rhino, Predator and Ork Battlewagon. Content is procedurally generated.
You'll be able to build Battle Squads (guilds, presumably) with your friends and customise a shared space in orbit where you can take stock before you drop down to the planet start killing stuff.
There are no screenshots or videos to go by yet; this must be a project in its infancy. Exciting, yes, but tread with trepidation.
