And The Rest: Friday News Roundup
SOE forms new Seattle studio, Devilish dug up for DS, Family Guy to become a game, Ghost Recon 2 to be coming to a GameCube, and Rome: Total War is patched.
Sony Online Entertainment has set up a new studio in Seattle, Washington, USA. Called SOE-Seattle, the new studio will, er, "further increase Sony Online Entertainment's global market share and will strengthen the overall planning and production of premium games".
Sorry, what? Nodded off.
Here's one that woke us up. Take-Two's new 2K Games label is apparently preparing to publish an official game based on one of our favourite TV shows, Family Guy. Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! OH YEAH! Or something. Except: oh no! What if it's as bad as that Futurama game? Well, we'll not pre-judge. Apparently the game is due out in 2006 as part of a deal with Twentieth Century Fox and 2K Games has console, PC and handheld rights. Right, a snappy line to go out on... Hrm, actually we're on our lunch... Well... that's my momma!
We could've sworn we already knew this, but Ubisoft says we didn't, so: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 is on its way to GameCube this [scans release] March. 31st. It's been developed by Ubisoft's Shanghai studio and will feature, you know, pretty much all the bits in the Xbox, PS2 and PC versions. Except for the online bits, obviously. We've written things about GR2 already, which you can read here.
No ghosts next, but, according to 1UP, publisher-we-haven't-heard-of Star Fish is preparing to release ageing Game Gear/Genesis puzzle title Devilish on the Nintendo DS in Japan soon. Ish. Apparently it's a bit like Breakout, which would work pretty well with a stylus. If we hear anything else, we'll mention it.
Finally, Rome: Total War can be patched in a day. To-day, in fact. 56MB of fixes and other things are included in this 1.2 patch archive as detailed in the readme file here.
So, er, have a nice weekend. Wherever you roam.
