New DS titles announced
Mr Tingle gets his own RPG.
Nintendo has unveiled a huge new list of titles currently in development at the 2005 DS Conference in Japan.
Highlights include a game which currently has the working title of Tingle RPG - yes, Zelda fans, the Wind Waker mascot is getting his very own adventure and it's due out next year. [NO! NOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOO! - Ed]
As is New Super Mario Brothers, which seems to be the final name of the game since Nintendo is no longer listing "working title" next to it on press literature. No further details have been revealed unfortunately, but we do know that Mario's arch enemy is also coming to DS with Kaitou Wario ("Thief Wario"). There will be 2D platforming on the touch screen while the top screen displays a map.
Mario will get an additional DS outing in the shape of Basket 3 Vs. 3 (working title). It's a basketball game, as you might have guessed, starring our hero and his chums. The action is on the top screen this time and in 3D, with a 2D overhead view on the bottom.
If you've heard of the Starfy platform series you may be pleased to know that Densetsu no Starfy 4 is coming to DS - though as with previous games you'll more than likely need to import your copy. The Custom Robo series is also getting an outing on the handheld, with combat shown in 3D on the top screen while the bottom shows your robot.
And finally there's Detect Hacker, a 2D adventure game with anime-style graphics that's set in present day Tokyo. It's being developed by Red Entertainment, the studio behind the Sakura Wars series.
It's not yet known whether any of the aforementioned titles will work online via Nintendo's new Wi-Fi Connect service. However, it has been confirmed that previously announced RPG Lost Magic will indeed feature an online mode, as will Contact - the new game from Killer 7 creator Gouichi Suda. In addition, SEGA and Treasure are planning to include an online mode in the DS version of Bleach.
Anyways, here's the full list of games presented at the DS Conference - some we knew about, some we're thrilled about, some we're reserving judgement about until we know something about them other than the name. None of these games have been announced for anywhere other than Japan so far.
