Ubisoft's signed a licensing deal to produce an Xbox 360 game based on Shonen Jump's Naruto manga/anime series.

The deal will see the game on US shelves in 2007, although there's no word on plans for a European release.

Naruto, which will be the first Japanese property Ubisoft's ever worked on, began life as a weekly manga in 1999 and has since gone on to become a successful anime - even finding success on the US Cartoon Network.

It stars Uzumaki Naruto, a ninja-in-training infused with the spirit of a Nine-Tailed Fox demon, who learns ninjutsu with his classmates Sakura and Sasuke under teacher Kakashi.

Naturally they wind up on adventures, learning the importance of friendship, teamwork, loyalty and all the rest - a bit like the Famous Five with nunchucks.

Naruto's already spawned several Japanese-only games, mostly on Nintendo platforms.
