EA to shut down lots of servers
Sports games hardest hit.
Electronic Arts is planning to shut down a bunch of online gaming servers in August and October, including quite a number of sports titles and those of real-time strategy title Armies of Exigo.
"Servers for the games listed below will be shut down on the indicated dates. You may continue to play the games online up until these dates, but certain community programs may begin to close down prior to the shutdown dates," the company said in a web statement.
"All of us at EA would like to thank you for your valued participation in our online gaming community and hope that your enthusiasm for these games extends to our current lineup and beyond."
Although Armies of Exigo is omitted from the EA.com list (included below), the news of server shutdowns comes by way of the game's official site. "Servers for Armies of Exigo: Rogue Agent will no longer be in service as of October 1, 2006," the update reads.
