UT2004 DVD edition restock won't be necessary in Europe, says Atari
The special DVD edition sold out in the States, prompting a re-issue of the discs, but Atari UK has already shipped enough of the vanilla DVD version to keep us all happy.
Atari UK has confirmed reports that a special DVD edition of Unreal Tournament 2004 has been re-released in the States to help satisfy demand, but reckons there will be no repeat in Europe, where "there should be no problem with supply" according to a spokesperson.
Along with the six-disc CD-ROM version of UT2004, last month Atari also launched a tin-box special edition DVD version consisting of the game on one disc, plus a separate disc containing a series of training modules and editing tools to help aspiring mod authors on their way, and a Logitech voice comms headset. When this quickly sold out, Atari USA decided to re-press the DVD version and re-release it, albeit without the matching tin box and bundled headset.
Given UT2004's weeklong reign as the UK's fastest-selling DVD game last month (soon eclipsed by Far Cry, for the record), we contacted Atari UK to find out whether similar measures would be put in place, only to be told they effectively already are.
"We released a DVD version of UT2004 along with the CD version on the day of release in addition to the limited edition version with headset," a spokesperson told us. "In fact, we manufactured more of the DVD version than the CD version so there should be no problem with supply."
In other words, you'll have no trouble getting your hands on the vanilla DVD edition of the game for the foreseeable future, although you may find that the tin box edition sells out rather quickly. Still, if you absolutely must have it, there's always eBay.
