DICE unveils Battlefield Vietnam
Be Charlie. In the trees.
Electronic Arts has announced that Digital Illusions Canada is working on a successor to Battlefield 1942, and has in fact hopped on one of the FPS genre's favourite new bandwagons. Welcome to Battlefield Vietnam.
Obviously the game will take place in all sorts of tropical environments, with players handling either US or North Vietnamese forces, jumping into 64 player battles or shooting AI-controlled Charlie in the single player component.
BV will offer some of the Vietnam War's fiercest battles, including the jungles along the Ho Chi Minh Trail and the streets of Hue, whilst soldiers will be tooled out with M-16s as they fly overhead in choppers, or pilot Russian T-54 tanks and MiG-21 fighters.
Other changes will see players able to fire from vehicles, helicopters able to airlift other vehicles and of course the obligatory updated graphics and sound engines.
But before we get our hands on Battlefield Vietnam, we've still got BF1942: Secret Weapons of World War II to look forward to, which is due out later this year.
Battlefield Vietnam is due out in spring 2004.
