UK Charts: Eye Toy overtakes Pokemon
Webcam antics provide the feel-good hit for the summer.
Sony's Eye Toy: Play is undoubtedly the hit of the summer with UK consumers, with the quirky package returning to number one in the charts this week - outselling Nintendo's Pokemon titles in the process.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire each drop down a place in the charts as a result, and now occupy the number two and three spots respectively; while much of the rest of the top of the chart is occupied by those EA cut-price titles, with FIFA 2003 at number four, and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Medal of Honor: Frontline and James Bond 007: Nightfire all also to be found in the top ten.
The scares over Internet virii this week have made an impact on the games chart as well, believe it or not - because of the way the charts are compiled, we're graced with the presence of Norton Antivirus 2003 at number eight, and Norton Internet Security 2003 at number ten.
Meanwhile Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness is still selling respectably, and is up one place to number five this week in the chart. The movie posters featuring Angelina Jolie in a figure-hugging costume which have popped up all over the UK can't be hurting those sales any, we'd imagine.
There's not a single new release to be found in the charts this week, and August 2003 is looking like marking a new low in the traditional summer "games drought".
The top ranked GameCube title is Star Wars Rogue Leader, for some reason we can't quite fathom, and unsurprisingly it doesn't get anywhere near the top 40 All-Formats ranking. The top ranked Xbox title is FIFA 2003, which is at number 4 in the chart, but it's hard to say how many of those sales exactly came from the Xbox version alone.
