Doom III SDK due soon, theme tune released
id Software confirms that an SDK is due in the near future and comments on the level editor, and you can now get your hands on the actual Doom III theme tune to boot.
id Software has reportedly confirmed that Doom III game source and the tools necessary to exploit it will be released shortly after the game hits retail in early August. The same reports also state that a level editor will be included in the retail package.
This is of course fairly typical of id, which is generally very eager to support the mod community with its wares. Previous releases have quickly benefited from such software development kits (SDKs) and other perks, and id has even released the full source code for Doom and Quake in the past, opening the doors to all manner of other, more fundamental modifications.
Meanwhile, former Nine Inch Nails man Chris Vrenna (aka Tweaker) has released the theme tune to Doom III on his website. You can hear the tune in its entirety by heading here and selecting it in the little music player applet.
It's an interesting piece, certainly, and it certainly got us in the mood. Not long to go now of course - with an August 13th date seemingly cemented for Europe according to various retailers.
