No more MGS for Kojima?

He's retiring, again.

Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, Metal Gear director Hideo Kojima has said MGS4: Guns of the Patriots will be his last contribution to the series. And we believe him, oh yes.

"This fourth [Metal Gear Solid] is going to be the final one for me and [art designer] Youji Shinkawa," he stated.

"There are other things that [we] want to create."

Except, er, Kojima said roughly the same thing after Metal Gear 3 was completed, and yet somehow managed to drag himself back for a fourth instalment. Hmm.

Kojima also joked that he's already found someone to take his place for MGS5 - Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai, who appeared at Konami's booth during an MGS event. He was taking the michael, of course, but Kojima did describe Sakurai - himself a huge fan of the MGS series - as one of the last great game designers remaining in Japan.

So can we expect some kind of MGS contribution from Sakurai, even if it's not in the role of producer? We'll just have to wait and see...
