Wario Ware sequel wins Arts prize
Japanese government is a fan.
Nintendo's Game Boy Advance title Mawaru Made in Wario has topped the Entertainment category in the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs' annual Media Arts Festival.
Mawaru Made in Wario, due for release in the West next year as Wario Ware Twisted, beat off 202 submissions including games, music videos and websites in the same category. Its predecessor, Wario Ware, Inc., won widespread critical acclaim despite poor sales outside Japan.
In recognising Mawaru Made in Wario, the Agency paid tribute to its wide-ranging appeal, and innovative design which sees a number of mini-games controlled by moving, spinning or tilting the Game Boy Advance handheld.
Nintendo also received plaudits for PictoChat, the wireless communication software that comes bundled with the Nintendo DS console, which along with the opening movie for Capcom's PS2 title Onimusha 3 received special commendation in the Entertainment category.
