SNK is working on a 3D version of Metal Slug for release on PlayStation 2, the publisher announced at the Tokyo Game Show today, and plans to release it simultaneously worldwide at the end of 2005.

That's in line with comments made by SNK's manager of overseas operations Shinya Morishita when we interviewed him in July. "We're trying to keep to a few titles, franchies, Metal Slug, King of Fighters, and Samurai Shodown. Now we're trying to release the original software only for the consumer titles [in] 3D," he said at the time. "We're trying to release maybe two of our new titles [in] 3D."

When asked where the games would be announced, we were told "Tokyo Game Show". So, in other words, there may be more to come from SNK at TGS. In the meantime, reports suggest that the 3D Metal Slug trailer looks very sharp. If it makes it onto the net any time soon, we'll let you know.
