Sly Raccoon sequel confirmed
On the cover of a magazine.
Sucker Punch is busy working on a sequel to Sly Raccoon/Cooper for Sony called Sly Cooper 2: Band of Thieves, and the game will appear on the cover of next month's Official PlayStation Magazine in the States.
Sly Raccoon - or Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus to its American friends - certainly was something special. From the quirky characters and environments constantly skewed out of shape to the daft premise and excitable voice actors, it had the look and feel of a throwaway Saturday morning cartoon, but in a nice way. Thanks to some clever variations on ageing stealth and platform conventions, it also quickly wound up as something of a staff favourite. Both Kristan and myself finished it in late 2002 despite an overcrowded festive schedule.
According to reports, the sequel will dispense with the tightly contained and in most cases rigidly linear levels that we played through in the original in favour of a more open-ended design. We can also expect to play with other characters besides Sly as the master thief embarks on an entirely new adventure.
