EyeToy welcomes Sega SuperStars
Sonic, Virtua Fighter, Samba de Amigo and other Sega faves join forces to give EyeToy owners something else to prance around waving their hands about excitedly.
Sega has taken the wraps off one of the six new titles it plans to show off at E3 next month, and it's certainly an interesting proposition - aiming to combine one of the PS2's most mainstream pursuits with some of the firm's hardcore properties. Sega SuperStars is, quite simply, an EyeToy mini-games package built around Sega's best-known properties, including Sonic the Hedgehog and Samba de Amigo.
Currently in development at Sonic Team, Superstars is set to feature on Sega's E3 stand (Room 151, Concourse Hall) at next month's trade show, and judging by the screenshots it'll be a popular fixture with the Sega-loving elements of the press and trade.
One screenshot shows a girl smacking House of the Dead-style zombies out of the way; another has a player whacking circles to the beat in a Samba de Amigo-flavoured offering; another shows a ring-collecting Sonic game; while the fourth has a rather reluctant-looking challenger squaring up to Akira from Virtua Fighter, complete with beat-'em-up health bars above their heads.
Although the screenshots have the look of the usual EyeToy mock-up offerings, we're certainly looking forward to this one, not least of all because it's in the hands of Sonic Team, and if anybody can make something exciting out of EyeToy then it's Yuji Naka's crew. Speaking of whom...
"EyeToy is a whole new way of interfacing with a game and in this respect, a very interesting proposition for a game developer," he said in today's statement. "I think there are many creative ways we'll be able to use the camera with great potential for fun. It's great to have the opportunity to reach a wider audience through a new system like this and I'm really excited to be developing a game like Sega SuperStars for EyeToy."
Expect to more about Sega SuperStars within the next two or three weeks.
