Full Spectrum Warrior engages PS2
THQ says Sony port will be out by March.
Making something of a mockery of those "Only on Xbox" tags that adorn copies of Full Spectrum Warrior, publisher THQ has revealed that it plans to release a PlayStation 2 version of Pandemic Studios' widely acclaimed squad-based shooter following the release of a PC port just under a month ago.
Announcing its fiscal 2005 second quarter results yesterday, THQ noted, "Key product releases anticipated for the fiscal 2005 fourth quarter include [..] 'Full Spectrum Warrior' for PlayStation 2." The fourth quarter it refers to concludes on March 31st, 2005, so we can assume the PS2 version will be out before then.
Unfortunately it's harder to say what it'll be like. We're guessing though that it will be a straight port of the Xbox version quite possibly including the two Epilogue missions bundled with the PC version and recently made available as premium downloads over Xbox Live - which, if it turns out to be true, will be another minor kick in the teeth for folks who thought they were buying into an Xbox exclusive...
Any PS2 owners who have ignored the game up to now can learn much more about it by reading our reviews of the Xbox and PC versions, but, to sum it up briefly, the idea is to direct a squad of four soldiers through a fictional middle-eastern state directing without letting them die but without pulling a single trigger yourself, either. And yes, it is as interesting as it sounds.
