NFL Blitz announced for PSN, XBLA
EA reboots arcade sports classic.
A new version of Midway's classic American football arcader NFL Blitz lands on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in January 2012, publisher EA has announced.
Priced at 1200 Microsoft Points or your regional equivalent of $14.99, it features the same OTT 7-on-7 action from the '90s original.
Players from all 32 NFL teams are included, as well as 31 NFL stadiums. There's fantasy boss battles in the Blitz Coliseum, a number of online modes, an Elite League feature that lets you purchase cards to build the perfect squad, online leaderboards and a range of customisation features.
Developed by EA Tiburon, it will apparently run at 60fps. EGM has first dibs on the announcement trailer.
"NFL Blitz was one of the great arcade classics of the '90s, and now we're bringing back everything fans loved at a great price, in high-definition and as a digital download," commented EA Sports mouthpiece Cam Weber.
"The new NFL Blitz will preserve the competitive nature of the original game, while delivering to fans the ultimate rivalry experiences online."
The original NFL Blitz - developed by NBA Jam studio Midway - first hit arcades back in 1997, with console versions following in 1998.
