Ninja Theory's remarkable Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice gets full VR support next week
Coming to Oculus and Vive as a free update.
Ninja Theory has announced that its stunning action-adventure Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is making the move to VR, and will come to Oculus Rift and Vive on July 31st.
Senua's Sacrifice released last August on PS4 and PC (and this April on Xbox One), and delivered a further evolution of the narrative-heavy, third-person hack-and-slash-style adventures that have defined Ninja Theory's output over the years.
It's a solidly designed experience, with exploration, puzzles, and combat strong enough to carry the momentum of its ambitious narrative - but, truthfully, it's the game's frequently breathtaking visuals and powerfully depicted themes that prove most memorable.
Hellblade's unusual blend of live-action and 3D modelled elements (ably assisted by some stellar audio work) breathe astonishing life into its strikingly designed, Norse-mythology-inspired world - and, crucially, help convey all the nuance of Melina Juergens's affecting performance as Senua, a warrior living with psychosis.
With such a strong presentational side and visceral focus, Hellblade's somewhat unexpected move to VR starts to make a lot of sense. However, those eager to experience the game in Oculus Rift or Vive should note that a GTX1080 is the minimum recommended graphics card.
The good news, however, is that Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice VR Edition will arrive as a free update to those that already own or buy the original game on Steam.
