Nintendo Zelda Treehouse E3 2016 live report

See the all-new Zelda in action live from 5pm BST.

It just wouldn't be E3 without Nintendo, and while the Japanese giant has a diminished presence it's still demoing what's set to be one of the highlights of the show. We'll be seeing plenty of the new Zelda, a little on Pokémon and hopefully a little more besides. Join us here from 5pm BST to see it all unfold.

Our live coverage of this event has finished.

One hour to go, and I am pumped.

Martin Robinson

(Full of coffee in a vain attempt to stir from this awful E3 slumber I'm in right now after two nights that have dragged on to 5am).

Martin Robinson

I do love Zelda and his pointy green hat. He is my favourite Nintendo.

Martin Robinson

Anyway, I'm going to spend the next 30 minutes playing my 3DS in an attempt to wake myself.

Martin Robinson

I feel a bit smug as I'm currently playing one of the games that's going to be in this conference/show.

Martin Robinson

Sorry, I'm awful.

Martin Robinson

12 MINOOOOTS.

Martin Robinson

megatronix: Re Zelda: I'm from Poland, and we did not had nes or snes there ( ther then korean nes pirate called Pegasus, with completely wicked names, sometimes even completely misused ), but I was lucky, and got snes from my wanderful, but unfortunately now late, grandmother, and i got ALTTP. But it was in German and I couldn't understand a word! So I have created my own mythos for this game as a kid. That was fun! Now I'm grown up, and trying myself in game design, and bringing up the mythos back!

This is a beautiful story!

Martin Robinson

rock27gr: Or even better Reggie's?

Reggie's nipples are definitely, definitely pierced. Steel rods right through those things.

Martin Robinson

Seeing as Everything is Dads at this year's E3, I wonder if Nintendo's gone a similar direction with Zelda.

Martin Robinson

Dads and grappling hooks! Hello all!

Christian Donlan

I was trying to sum up trends, BTW, rather than kick off a new Captain Haddock-style catchphrase.

Christian Donlan

Dads and Grappling Hooks! Whatever next? Etc.

Christian Donlan

I wish your dad worked at Nintendo.

Christian Donlan

We're up and running.

Martin Robinson

I just saw Link's nipples. Just sayin'.

Martin Robinson

Also, tameable horses, climbing rockfaces and, most excitingly, twitching deer ears.

Martin Robinson

Hit-pause confirmed!

Christian Donlan

And Link's right handed? Sacrilege.

Martin Robinson

An old, beaten-up Master Sword glimpsed too - this seems to be late in the Zelda timeline.

Martin Robinson

I was watching Obama on Jimmy Fallon, and I think he's left-handed.

Christian Donlan

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Martin Robinson

I appreciate this isn't relevant.

Christian Donlan

Love that nod to LTTP at the very end.

Christian Donlan

A huge open world - and they're only showing a small section during today's stream.

Martin Robinson

vert1go: I think shirtless diving Link won the E3 nipplewatch.

Don't forget Norman Reedus and his little foetus. He brought some big nipples. We'll do a face-off later this week.

Martin Robinson

Before we see more Zelda, we're going to see some Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Martin Robinson

And yeah, Team Rowlet all day every day.

Martin Robinson

Perfect time to announce a Drilldozer reboot.

Christian Donlan

You tell us.

Christian Donlan

Oh man, poor Popplio. He can't catch a break.

Martin Robinson

Professor Kukui is so goddamn hench.

Martin Robinson

Heliocentric Pokemon model confirmed.

Christian Donlan

Is Pokemon set on Earth anyway?

Christian Donlan

If only Tom Phillips was here to tell us.

Christian Donlan

The Zelda trailer is about to hit the site.

Martin Robinson

Trendyninja: Who would have thought Pokemon would have so much time devoted to it.

It's Nintendo's biggest game of the year.

Martin Robinson

A word of warning if you're just here for Zelda - I think we're going to linger on Pokemon for a little while.

Martin Robinson

The fact you're not typing Pokémon with its proper accent means I'm not going to tell you, Martin.

Tom Phillips

This is a Treehouse - not a Direct, not a conference - and they take things slowly.

Martin Robinson

How much was she paid to pretend she picked Popplio?

Christian Donlan

Sorry, Tom. And thanks for typing that out so I can copy and paste the accent. *Pokémon* it is.

Martin Robinson

MrTomFTW: I think Martin, Christian and Tom have fallen asleep.

Ha, actually I'm just watching the Zelda trailer again.

Martin Robinson

Hope you get well soon, @megatronix!

Christian Donlan

Hope that wasn't a Game of Thrones spoiler, @ecco.

Christian Donlan

Probably my favourite thing about the new Zelda is how it so fully evokes the NES original.

Martin Robinson

The art-style is pulled straight from the manual, the more open-ended design from the game itself.

Martin Robinson

I don't want to talk too much about it yet as I don't want to disrespect Pokémon - which looks ace.

Martin Robinson

MrTomFTW: I have a true fucked-up clown story. If you ever corner me at a show, ask me and I'll tell you :D Anyway, fuck clowns. Even seal clowns.

Now seems as good a time as any...

Martin Robinson

I just watched the Zelda trailer again. Nintendo remain the only game makers in the world who know how to deploy an accordion in a soundtrack. Respect.

Oli Welsh

Nothing funny about a Popplio after midnight.

Christian Donlan

MrTomFTW: Oh God, am I really going to type this clown story out? It's quite long...

We've got plenty of time 'til Zelda's up again.

Martin Robinson

Riice: There's a schedule on the Nintendo site: 9:00 AM PTReggie Kicks Off E3 2016 for Nintendo 9:15 AM PTPokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon 10:00 AM PTThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Introduction 12:25 PM PTThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 'The NES Connection' 2:10 PM PTThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 'Beyond the Plateu' Gameplay

This is very useful, thanks.

Martin Robinson

MrFlay: Zelda is back at 6pm?

Yup, 6pm and 8.25pm.

Martin Robinson

MrTomFTW, I salute you for making this all more bearable.

Martin Robinson

Everyone has just left the office.

Martin Robinson

It's just me, on my own.

Martin Robinson

And this stream.

Martin Robinson

Ulp. Daughter almost home so I'm off too! Love to all!

Christian Donlan

Enjoy Zelda, everyone!

Christian Donlan

richielaa: Whiskey Martin.....Whiskey

Ooooooh, well - I do have a hipflask with some bourbon in my bag. Not that I've got a problem or anything. I've just got some whiskey.

Martin Robinson

The Zelda section is being prepped. Ten minutes to go 'til the main event.

Martin Robinson

And here we go (damn you for trolling me MrTomFTW!)

Martin Robinson

(But thanks for the clown story and the nipples and everything else).

Martin Robinson

This Zelda's all about breaking the conventions of Zelda.

Martin Robinson

Loading....

Martin Robinson

Hopefully those load times will be slightly shorter on the NX.

Martin Robinson

LINK'S NIPPLES!

Martin Robinson

Wait, does he even have nipples?

Martin Robinson

This is the very start of the game, with Link waking up in an almost sci-fi environment.

Martin Robinson

A fully-voiced Zelda, it seems, but Link remains mute.

Martin Robinson

You can play this new Zelda nude, if you want.

Martin Robinson

That's my takeaway. Well, I think I played Twilight Princess fully nude as well, but I don't think it's quite the same.

Martin Robinson

There's loot and armour and full load-outs.

Martin Robinson

The logo, while harking back to the original NES game, also has a strong Nausicaa/Ghibli vibe.

Martin Robinson

As does the soundtrack, which could almost be Joe Hisaishi.

Martin Robinson

There's a stamina bar - which featured in some small way in Skyward Sword - and scaleable environments.

Martin Robinson

rock27gr: I don't know if I like this newfangled voice-acting thingy

I think it's being used sparingly. I still prefer the old text approach, for sure.

Martin Robinson

Well, this is certainly a stronger opening to a Zelda than that of Twilight Princess. Not a goat to be herded.

Martin Robinson

I'm just waiting for this old man to say 'It's dangerous to go alone...'

Martin Robinson

vert1go: Is this a prequel?

It looks more like a very late Zelda game, with everything in ruin.

Martin Robinson

Haha, I fell for that...

Martin Robinson

This is a proper sandbox Nintendo game, which is what really fascinates me.

Martin Robinson

Holy holy the Koroks from Wind Wakers return.

Martin Robinson

vert1go: I'd like all of those people whining about how the world was going to be lifeless and empty to come here, right now.

In fairness to them, the Zelda they showed back then looked very, very different to this one.

Martin Robinson

Zelda bombshell: rupees and hearts no longer come out of grass.

Tom Phillips

Weapon durability is in.

Martin Robinson

The absence of hand-holding is impressive.

Martin Robinson

Discovery of systems seems organic.

Martin Robinson

Kami: It does feel Souls-y.

Souls games always felt like what Zelda could have evolved into, if Nintendo took a different path.

Martin Robinson

This looks like a beaten-down peahat to me.

Martin Robinson

I'd happily take a Nintendo Light Souls.

Martin Robinson

The demo just timed out - so I think that suggests there's a brief 15-minute window on the E3 demo.

Martin Robinson

Bill Trinen looks like he's about to vomit.

Martin Robinson

Trinen's relying on his art degree to get him through the cock-up.

Martin Robinson

Run, Link, run! They're desperately trying to catch up with where they were before the demo time limit kicked in.

Martin Robinson

Bill Trinen's lost it.

Martin Robinson

We're just being told you might have to reinstall Miitomo after deleting it two days after launch as there's some Zelda stuff coming.

Martin Robinson

Someone give Bill a hug while the cameras are off.

Martin Robinson

I think that's it for a short while. Hopefully we'll be able to bring you more on Zelda shortly.

Martin Robinson

Apologies for the silence. Anyway, here's our in-depth Zelda preview from Tom, who got to play it on Sunday. Lucky sod.

Martin Robinson

We're logging off in the Brighton office to head to the pub. But! Over in LA things are just getting started.

Martin Robinson

For now, and from us here in the UK, it's TARA!
