UPDATE: Confirmed.
UPDATE: Sony has now confirmed the Persona 5 Royal western release date, which is indeed 31st March, 2020.
The price of the Phantom Thieves Edition has now been revealed to be £79.99.
ORIGINAL STORY: Ahead of an official announcement later today, the western release date for Persona 5 Royal appears to have leaked online. It looks like we'll be regrouping with the Phantom Thieves next year on 31st March, 2020.
Leaked online through ResetEra was not only the release date, but also a Phantom Thieves edition of the JRPG. The Phantom Thieves edition features the game in a steelbook, a Joker mask, the soundtrack on a disc and an art book, but has yet to be priced.
We've asked Atlus for comment.
Persona 5 Royal is a much-expanded edition of the original game from 2017. Following the adventures of high school misfits in Tokyo as they attempt to reform a corrupt society, the upgraded edition out next year will feature two new characters, one of which will don a mask and join the Phantom Thieves, a full third school term, new battle and conversation animations, and more upgrades.
Persona 5 Royal won't be the only Persona game releasing in 2020. Persona 5 Scramble, a hack-and-slash spin-off game from Koei Tecmo and Atlus, will release for the PS4 and Switch later in 2020, starring the Phantom Thieves hacking and slashing their way through hordes of monsters in a shadowy Tokyo.
