Pillars of Eternity's release delayed to early 2015
For polish and to "make sure we don't ship a buggy game".
Pillars of Eternity has been delayed from winter 2014 to early 2015, developer Obsidian has announced.
The old-school role-playing game became available in August to people who helped fund it. The backer beta was intended to amass feedback, and feedback it got. And therein lies the reason for the delay.
"To incorporate as much feedback as possible, polish every nook and cranny of the game, and make sure we don't ship a buggy game, Obsidian has decided to push the game's release into early next year," explained producer Brandon Adler on the game's forum.
"We are going to use the extra time to make Eternity shine for our backers, and a game that we were proud to call our own and would live up to your expectations."
Pillars of Eternity could use the extra time. There's plenty to like, plenty to praise, but the combat comes up short.
Dan Whitehead explored the game in more detail, and I recorded a Let's Play video, which I've dumped below.
