PlayStation 4 system update adds USB background music
But when will it launch?
Sony's long-in-development PlayStation 4 firmware update 2.0 will include the ability to listen to background music while playing a game.
PS4 owners will be able to plug in a USB stick and then select MP3, MP4, M4A and 3GP audio files to play.
Sony highlighted the feature in a new US PlayStation blog post on the 2.0 update - which still lacks a release date.
Background music has yet to pop up on Xbox One, which released its latest firmware update yesterday.
But while Microsoft's machine is being updated with new features every month, Sony has been slower to update the PS4. The last notable update for the console was the addition of 3D Blu-Ray support back in July.
Other new features for the PS4's 2.0 update include themes and console background colours, enhanced voice commands and live broadcasting features, and an 'Add to Library' button for PlayStation Plus titles that you don't want to immediately download.
The console's Live Area, which lists the most recently used games and apps, has also gotten a redesign. It will now show 15 titles, while your Library will have improved filtering and search features.
