PlayStation State of Play March 2022 live report
Join us for all the fun and surprises from 10pm GMT tonight.
Ape Escape returns! KojPro's Silent Hill and Bluepoint's MGS remake revealed! GRADIUS 6! None of this will happen at 10pm GMT tonight.
Our live coverage of this event has finished.
Oooh you're an eager bunch! (Hello!)
weebleman: Lets get straight in with it Martin. How longs this on for
20 minutes I believe. Which is pleasingly short.
Kami: Vagrant Story remaster. Yes I fully intend to WILL this thing into existence!
Let's will it into existence together!
This_way_out: Seeing that Gradius art got me excited until I came into the article and read the words... So cruel.
I share your pain. And yet I did this to myself...
I'm pootling around in my shed right now - I'll be back around 9.45 to kick this off in earnest.
And I might have been *drinking* by that point, so who knows what'll happen.
Kami: @Miyamotosan - Elden Ring. Controversial opinion; I love it, but I don't see this BOTW stuff people keep harping on about. if anything, kind of reminds me more of Skyrim.
I totally agree, but because I'm an annoying sort I'm also going to say it reminds me a lot of Xenoblade - in a very good way!
Who's to say it won't happen?
(It won't happen.)
Realistically, it's best to keep expectations in check.
Sony's been doing these State of Plays a few weeks before its big launches recently - we got one before Horizon Forbidden West and one before Gran Turismo 7.
In a few weeks we've the PlayStation 5 console exclusive Ghostwire Tokyo - so expect that to be a focus at some point.
There'll be Resident Evil news, I'm sure - whether that's more for Village, or more likely a glimpse at the Resident Evil 4 remake.
Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires came out recently as well and honestly I'd be well up for 18 of the 20 minutes being about that.
If Capcom is there with Resident Evil news, I wonder if it'll show up with either Pragmata or - and this is unlikely - Street Fighter 6.
Oh, and I forgot - Square Enix should be a presence too, given the emphasis on Japanese partners.
Perhaps that's in the shape of the recently delayed Forspoken which could do with a decent showing, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 or - and this is a long shot but let's hope and pray - Final Fantasy 16.
I haven't been this excited for a Final Fantasy since... Well, since 13 if I'm being honest. And that didn't turn out too great.
Though I love Final Fantasy 13 really.
Final Fantasy 16, though, looks outrageous.
All the expertise and character of Final Fantasy 14 in something that might be a bit more approachable for people like me who are intimidated by MMOs.
I shouldn't get carried away, given that's now likely a 2023 release and so unlikely to be seen for a while.
Can't blame me for hoping tho.
Kami: The only good bit about FF13 was Lightning and they STILL found a way to make me hate her in Lightning Returns.
And the battle theme! Don't forget the battle theme!
All this and I forgot about Sony's own Japanese studios.
I'd be up for some details on what's next for Gran Turismo 7 - though the next big beat for that would most likely be alongside PSVR2, which won't be featuring tonight.
What if we got wind of a new Astrobot though!
And good lord Bloodborne news would be good. Why settle for a PS5 version - why not hope for a sequel!
But also honestly a 60fps version of the PS4 original would be more than enough to make me happy.
SeanBeansGravyBoat: Ridge Racer V 4K remaster or GTFO
YES FARKIN PLZ.
spamdangled: In a just world they would apologise for, and reverse, their totally unjustified game price increase to £70. It's bloody absurd, as is their claim that game prices haven't increased over the years when they demonstrably have, or that game publishers are suffering when they are making record profits.
Would be a strong opener for sure.
MrZappa: Anything from FROM!
It almost seems too soon, and yet!
Here we go!
tomphillipsEG: KNACK 3
Don't.
This looks like Pragmata to me.
I'm probably wrong.
Lovely robobutt there, whatever this is.
Was Pragmata a new Dino Crisis all along?
Good lord the RE Engine looks amazing. Imagine what Street Fighter is going to look like in this!
Exoprimal!
I guess that's what was Pragmata? And is a Dino Crisis thing? Lord knows. It might even be a new Lost Planet at the same time - it looked interesting all the same.
Daigohji: Dino Crisis themed Anthem...
Oh don't say Anthem. As soon as you did you totally killed the vibe!
The more I see of Ghostwire Tokyo the more intrigued I am.
For some reason every time I see it I can't stop thinking of Maken X.
Anyway, Ghostwire Tokyo is out soon!
Stranger of Paradise is also out soon!
And there's another demo - they're certainly not shy showing this one off.
Forspoken here, trying to prove it's not the mess it looked last time out. And doing a pretty good job of it to be fair.
It looks more like Dragon's Dogma this time out anyway, which is good enough for me.
YES! GUNDAM!
Not that I know anything about Gundam.
Like I didn't know there was a Gundam Overwatch.
I kind of want to play it.
I just know I really like big robots.
And this 6v6 shooter Gundam Evolution has loads of big robots.
A Konami Turtles collection, which I'm also up for.
I'm loving this so much.
More kaiju action in this fun arcade versus game!
Hell yeah.
And now... JoJo's Bizarre Adventure?
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure! Capcom doing mad stuff with dinosaurs! Offbeat supernatural first-person adventures se in Tokyo! I feel like I'm back in the mid-noughties and everything is just fine and dandy.
This intriguing 2D samurai game - Trek to Yomi - has been shown before, and it continues to impress.
Also, it's out this spring.
Some more Returnal now? That's reason to be happy.
Co-op!
Yeah you're right. It's just that whole period was a bit of a blur for me so I get confused about it easily!
Co-op and survival coming to Returnal in the free expansion Ascension this March.
I deffo didn't spell that right.
But shhhh this new Square Enix game looks like my shit.
Indeed, and that excites me.
It's basically Final Fantasy Tactics done in an XCOM style?
Or to be more direct, it's a new Final Fantasy Tactics.
Please let Matsuno be involved.
DioField Chronicle, rather than a straight-up new FFT. But we know what it really is.
And now - is this a new Infinite Undiscovery or Last Remnant?
I think when I said mid-noughties vibes earlier this kind of thing and the dino robot game was what I was referring to.
Valkyrie Elysium.
Crazy and quite generic looking stuff with indecipherable names, basically.
The kind of crap I go wild for.
Well, I enjoyed that.
Everyone else here at EG was essentially saying that was second-rate TGS scraps.
Which, again, is the kind of crap I go wild for.
I enjoyed myself - I hope you did too!
Thanks for joining us - it's been lovely, as ever - and see you again soon!
