Point-and-click indie drama Richard & Alice is out today on GoG
A "sophisticated and mature" tale of two prisoners in a wintry future.
Foreboding point-and-click adventure Richard & Alice is out today on GoG for $5.99 or your local equivalent.
For those not familiar with it, Richard & Alice is described as a "sophisticated and mature" adventure about two prisoners in a snowy not-too-distant future. The titular characters are strangers quarantined across the hall from one another and throughout the course of the game they'll learn about each other via playable flashbacks and dialogue trees when they're not attempting to bust out of prison. The game features several endings determined by obscure player actions where it's not always clear that you're making a choice ala Silent Hill - or real life, for that matter.
I've not played it yet myself, but ex-EG contributor and Rock, Paper, Shotgun PC guru John Walker spoke highly of Richard & Alice in his appraisal. "Richard & Alice is a poignant, well-told tale, exploring themes of hope, despair and morality. And that's not a thing you can say about enough games," he wrote.
Full disclosure: Richard & Alice was co-developed by Eurogamer contributor Lewis Denby along with freelance game journalist Ashton Raze. I nearly didn't write about the game for that very reason, but ultimately decided that while I'm sure I'll receive accusations of playing favourites, Denby's connection to EG actually makes the game more applicable to you, our dear readers. Maybe you're a fan of Denby's writing and want to see how he fares as a game creator. Maybe you want to prove that you're intellectually superior to him and want to play his game to critique it. Or maybe you just want to play it because it actually sounds like an intriguing game.
Or maybe you don't want to play it at all. There's always that.
