Iron Island Pokémon, trainers and items in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Our complete guide to Pokémon BDSP's trainers, items, and wild Pokémon.

Iron Island is an optional but very worthwhile area in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, following on from Route 218 and Canalave City in your adventure.

Below we'll take you through all the key details for the location, including any Pokémon encounters, trainers, and items that might be available, plus a walkthrough of your key objectives and anything else you'll need to know.

Iron Island Exterior Pokémon, trainers and items

Take the boat from Canalave City (and bring some Repels while you're at it, as the spawns are frequent and annoying in here) and you'll arrive at Iron Island's Exterior, where there's just an empty house and one hidden Max Ether available.

Eventually you'll loop around inside the cave and exit via the one-way ledges here, but for now, head on inside. The Iron Island cave has two levels to it, but crucially each level has two sides, a left and a right. At each level, one of the two sides is a dead end, but both contain useful items, so we'll take you on a completionist walkthrough here, through the entire thing collecting all the items and beating all the trainers as you go.

Iron Island B1F Left - Pokémon, trainers and items

Ok, first up when you enter the cave, go down the left set of stairs to Basement 1 (B1F) Left. This side is the dead end, but has one handy item which is simple to get, along with one trainer.

When you've got the Iron Ball, head back up the way you came and down the right side instead, to B1F Right, which is the way through.

This is the way onwards. Work your way round to the right then down through the center, to get to the lift to the next level.

You'll have a choice of left or right again. This time to right first to a dead end with items and battles, in B2F Right.

Iron Island B2F Left - Pokémon, trainers and items

Alrighty, this is the last main room and also the largest and most complex.

When you enter B2F Left, you'll be met by someone called Riley. He teams up with you here, like with the trainer in Eterna Forest earlier in the game. Wild Pokémon will be double battles, and most trainers in here come in pairs - he'll use a nifty Lucario and heal you up in between.

Down at the southern end of the room you'll meet a pair of Galactic Grunts - they're the ones stirring up all the Pokémon here! After defeating them, Riley will give you a gift: a Pokémon Egg! This one hatches into the very rare Riolu, which evoles into Lucario. Take care of it!

Once you've collected everything here (and caught a Steelix if you don't fancy manually evolving an Onix yourself) then head south and down an elevator, then west, through the small room and up another elevator. Grab the Shiny Stone on your right before you exit! You don't want to have to loop all the way back to get that, and it's the only way to evolve Roselia into a Roserade, so it's handy!

Then you can exit to the west, and you're all done! Head back to Canalave City to heal up, and then on to your next destination in the main quest: Lake Valor and Lake Verity!
