Pokémon Go Kyurem counters, weaknesses and moveset explained

How to catch the boundary Pokémon.

Kyurem, the last member of the tao trio, has debuted in Pokémon Go.

Understanding Kyurem's weaknesses will help you defeat it and, hopefully, add it to your Pokédex.

Like the previous legendary Pokémon, including Reshiram and Zekrom, Kyurem will be available in five-star raids, so, if you want to add it to your Pokédex, you'll need to battle it alongside a group of trainers.

The introduction of Remote Raiding also means that you can conduct this battle from wherever you please.

Kyurem counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go

Here are the weaknesses and counters which will help you catch Kyurem in Pokémon Go:

  • Kyurem type: Dragon and ice-type
  • Kyurem is weak against: Dragon, fairy, fighting, rock and steel-type
  • Kyurem counters: Machamp, Tyranitar, Gardevoir, Metagross, Rayquaza, Togekiss, Rhyperior, Lucario, Dialga, Palkia, Garchomp and Conkeldurr
  • Other Kyurem notes: Kyurem has a great range of counters for you to choose from, so, if you find yourself spoiled for choice, we suggest focusing on steel-types as this is the weakness that both dragon and ice-types share.

Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

Everything we know about Kyurem

Kyurem is the final member of the Tao trio, which includes Reshiram, who symbolises yang, and Zekrom, who symbolises yin. This leaves Kyurem as the representation of wuji, which can be interpreted as a limitless void - an absence of yin and yang.

This philosophical belief appears to play a part in the creation of Kyurem itself.

Reshiram and Zekrom.

There are a number of conflicting myths surrounding the origins of Kyurem, but the one that seems closest to the truth claims that after the splitting of the original legendary dragon of Unova, which created both Reshiram and Zekrom, there were a number of leftover dragon parts.

These body parts then formed into Kyurem, but the dragon itself was hollow and awaited someone to embude it with either truth, represented by Reshiram, or ideals, which is connected to Zekrom.

This is why, in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, you're able to fuse Kyurem with one of these legendary Pokémon to create either White Kyurem or Blakc Kyurem; you are essentially filling this shell of a dragon-type Pokémon with the beliefs that it has been missing.
