How to get Rockruff and Lycanroc Midday and Midnight forms in Pokémon Go
Lycan-subscribe.
Rockruff is one of the many Gen 7 Pokémon introduced to Pokémon Go as part of Season of Alola.
Not only has Rockruff debuted with a degree of rarity, but has an evolution, Lycanroc, with two Forms you can unlock, which has specific requirements.
And if you were wondering, Rockruff can be shiny in Pokémon Go - and we go through the differences on this page.
On this page:
How to get Rockruff in Pokémon Go
Rockruff first appeared in Pokémon Go as part of Season of Alola on March 1st, 2022, and unlike many others, cannot be find in the wild.
On its debut, you can get Rockruff in Pokémon Go from 10km Eggs and one-star raids.
With a CP of 3118 in Pokémon Go, Rockruff can be battled alone in a raid - though it's worth taking some rock counters (fighting, ground, steel) to make the fight easier.
Eggs are trickier as there is only a chance Rockruff will feature.
Make sure you look at the Egg's contents to see if Rockruff can be found inside too, as only Eggs picked up from Season of Alola's debut can feature them.
How to get Lycanroc Midday and Midnight forms in Pokémon Go
Rockruff has an evolution - Lycanroc - which you can evolve with 50 Candy.
There are two possible forms for Lycanroc to take, each with a different additional requirement:
- To get Lycanroc's Midday Form, evolve Rockruff during the day.
- To get Lycanroc's Midnight Form, evolve Rockruff at night.
The time of night and day varies per region - check the in-game map for when it is light and dark respectively.
This is not too disimilar to how Eevee evolutions Umbreeon and Espeon work, evolving during the night and day respectively. Of course, there's extra conditions there - having them as your buddy and walking a certain distance - making the Rockruff evolutions much more straightforward.
Is Lycanroc's Dusk form in Pokémon Go?
At present, Lycanroc's Dusk form is not available in Pokémon Go.
It's likely because Pokémon Go seems to only support day and night evolution timings, and either a dusk-time evolution might be possible at some point, or another evolution method might be rolled out specially for Dusk to appear.
Either way, a Dusk form is technically in the game files - and we already know what it will look like...
Pokémon Go shiny Rockruff, shiny Lycanroc differences
On debut, Rockruff and Lycanroc's forms can be shiny. Here is what they all look like, compared to their regular counterparts, at a glance (thanks to TopAssistance2 on reddit for the image):
Good luck catching Rockruff and Lycanroc's many forms in Pokémon Go!
