Swablu's best IV and Alteria's best moveset recommendation in Pokémon Go explained
How to get the most out of May's Community Day.
Pokémon Go's Swablu is the focus of May 2021's Community Day, an event which sees increased spawns of the Pokémon over the course of six hours.
This allows you to not only flesh out your Pokedex entries with this and its evolutions easily, and get hold of a shiny version, but also maximise your chances of finding those with high IVs - in other words, its stats - to use in battle.
Once you have found the best IV for your needs, you'll then want to evolve it and give it the best moveset available.
This page explains Swablu's best IVs to help you across the Go Battle League, as well as evolution Alteria's best moveset to give it a further edge.

Swablu's best IV recommendations explained
Within the limited Community Day window of six hours, you'll want to find most powerful Pokémon available.
One way of doing this is knowing the CP values that represent its best IV values across various Go Battle League categories:
- For the Ultra League IVs, you'll want to aim for 00/14/15 (to max out at 1497 CP). If so, you'll want to find a 568 CP Swablu.
- For the Master League or raid IV, you'll want to aim for 15/15/15 (the max CP will vary based on your level). If so, you'll want to find a 706 CP Swablu (or 765 CP if weather boosted).
Note that since Alteria is best used for Ultra League, that should be the focus out of the two.
The above CP values are useful if you don't want to miss out on high value Pokémon on the day, or if you're in a rush; if the CP above don't match what's shown on the catch screen, you're then free to back out and check the next one, and so on.
If you haven't checked the CP as you were catching it - say you were using a Go Plus, or simply caught everything in your way - then remember you narrow down your catches by highest IVs overall by searching for 3* (82% best possible IVs and above) or 4* (15/15/15 - or perfect) within your Pokémon inventory.
If you come away from Community Day without a perfect IV, don't worry - the differences at the high end is practically marginal, so as long as you get something close to perfect, it'll still be excellent in battle.
Either way, the most important element is the moveset - so no matter what you catch, evolve and power-up, make sure that's the priority...
The Dual Destiny Season is here! It brings the Holiday Part 1 event with it. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.
Alteria's moves and best moveset recommendation explained
When evolved into Alteria, we recommend a moveset of Dragon Breath (Fast) and Dragon Pulse (Charged), even when taking into consideration the Community Day exclusive move, Moonblast.
That said, if you can afford a second move, then that is the one to go for, as its Fairy type can take on popular types such as Fighting, Dragon and Dark. Sky Attack isn't a bad option either though, especially against grass and fighting types, which are relevant in the Go Battle League meta.
Of course, that's our opinion - if you want the full available set of moves for when you're using Fast and Charged TMs, they are as follows:
Fast Moves:
- Dragon Breath (Dragon)
- Peck (Flying)
Charged Moves:
- Dazzling Gleam (Fairy)
- Dragon Pulse (Fairy)
- Moonblast (Fairy) - Community Day exclusive
- Sky Attack (Flying)
Remember you can evolve up to two hours after Community Day ends (7pm local time) in order to get the exclusive move. If you miss this window, then you need to use an Elite Charged TM.
As well as this, know that the Mega Evolution of Alteria will be released in raids at the conclusion of the Community Day, if you're looking to make use of your newly powered up Pokémon!
