What is Friendship in Pokémon Legends Arceus?
Friendship is a stat that your Pokémon have in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Your Pokémon may feel more or less close to you depending on your behaviour and actions.
Some Pokémon will only evolve when their Friendship level is high enough.
The only way to determine your Pokémon's Friendship level is by speaking to Belamy in Jubilife Village, but you will have to complete a Request for him first.
How to raise your Friendship level in Pokémon Legends Arceus
There are many ways to raise your Friendship level in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Keep them in your party as you run around Hisui, and focus on the following activities.
Gathering Resources
This is the most reliable way to increase your Pokémon's friendship levels. Sending out your Pokémon to collect berries, ores, plants, and so on will make them feel closer to you.
These resources are all over Hisui, so you can quickly rack up the friendship that you need with a Pokémon simply by running around and throwing them at every single material that you see.
Levelling Up
This is another reliable way to increase your Pokémon's friendship levels. It is especially effective on lower level Pokémon.
Because Pokémon automatically share EXP after you defeat or catch a wild Pokémon, keeping a low level Pokémon in your party, even if you don't use it, can quickly level it up. This will also quickly raise its Friendship. However, if your Pokémon is already a high level this can be a slower process.
You can give your Pokémon Exp. Candies and Rare Candies, which will give them more EXP points and contribute to their levelling up. These can be obtained by defeating some wild Pokémon or from certain Requests.
You can also buy Exp. Candies and Rare Candies from Bonn, whose stall is left of the Galaxy Hall. (Look for all the bright blue sweets.)
However, they're expensive, with an Exp. Candy S going for 1,600 Pokébucks and the price increasing all the way up to an Exp. Candy XL for 50,000 Pokébucks.
You can also swap 1000 Merit points for one Rare Candy at Simona's item exchange, further to the left of Bonn.
Pokémon seem to get a boost to Friendship from being fed these sweet treats, as an additional bonus.
Battling
Using your Pokémon in battle will raise its Friendship levels. However, be careful, because a Pokémon fainting will reduce its Friendship level.
Because of that, this method can be a bit slow, but if you're playing casually it will help to make your Pokémon warm up to you over time.
How to unlock the Friendship Checker - Request 28 Measuring Your Compatibility in Pokemon Legends Arceus
The Friendship Checker is a person called Belamy who stands near the pastures in the east of Jubilife Village.
In order to get your Pokémon's friendship checked, you will first need to complete Request 28, 'Measuring Your Compatibility.' In it, Belamy wants to see a Pokémon that you've befriended. Follow the steps above if you don't already have a Pokémon that you're especially close to.
When you show it to him, he will be pleased and offer to check your Friendship levels in the future. He will also give you a Rare Candy.
You can find the various lines Belamy can say when he checks your Pokémon, along with how this line corresponds to your Pokémon's Friendship level below:
- The usual response from Belamy to a freshly caught Pokémon is "I suppose [Pokémon] has become a bit friendly toward you, but you've a ways to go..."
- A Pokémon's Friendship levels can be lower than this, at which point he says "[Pokémon] seems leery of you yet. New to the team, perhaps?"
- A middle-friendship Pokémon will get the line "[Pokémon] seems to get on well with you. But I'm sure it could get on better!"
- Pokémon will be ready to evolve when Belamy says "You and [Pokémon] seem to be fast friends. You must be quite good companions!"
There is a level above this, where Belamy says "What an excellent pair of friends you and [Pokémon] make. You must mean a lot to each other!" This level appears not to confer any additional benefits. But you do want to be excellent friends with your Pokémon, don't you?
