Pokémon Sword and Shield Route 7 - available Pokémon, items and trainers

Our complete walkthrough for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Route 7 is a small connecting route east of Hammerlocke, and follows on from Ballonlea and Opal's Gym in your quest through Pokémon Sword and Shield's main story.

On each page of our walkthrough like this, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their teams that you might come across here, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story, puzzles or challenges along the way.

Where applicable, note that our walkthrough pages will be down into separate sections referring to each of your visits to a given location, seeing as you often backtrack or revisit various places in your quest to become Galar League Champion. And of course if there are any, we'll clearly mark any spoilers, too!

For more explainers, meanwhile, or walkthrough pages on more locations in Sword and Shield, head back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Route 7 - available Pokémon, items and trainers

Route 7 is a very small route, and part of it is blocked off on your first visit by Team Yell, too.

There are a handful of worthwile Pokémon and items here, but really it's just a quick palate cleanser before you head to the more elaborate route that follows.

Still, if you're coming here straight after Ballonlea Gym, there will have been a quick bit of story that's worth catching up on. When you revisit Hammerlocke having beaton Ballonlea Gym, you'll find Bede hanging out in front of the stadium. Opal will ask him to take on her Gym Mission, trying to convince him to become to new Gym Leader there, while you'll also bump into Sonia in the eastern part of town.

Leon will turn up and go off with Sonia - once again, you can't do anything here to help - so you go meet Hop, who takes you to the eastern Pokémon Center in Hammerlocke, and then finally you can head here, to Route 7 itself, where Hop's waiting for a battle on the bridge, too. Here's what's available!

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Route 7 revisited - available Pokémon, items and trainers

Your return to Route 7 will come after finishing up in Spikemuth, and taking the short and largely empty Route 9 Tunnel.

Exiting the tunnel, you'll encounter another bridge, plus an extra trainer and an item and berry tree that weren't available on the western part of Route 7 during your first visit.

The main thing to note here is there's an easily missable ramp, just at the eastern end of the bridge, that takes you down to a lower level with that berry tree and an item - be sure to check it out!
