Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Hano Grand Resort, Hano Beach and the Aether Foundation

Hano Grand Resort, Hano Beach and Aether Foundation are the next stops as you take a brief break from the Ilsand Challenge and learn a little more about the strange goings on around Alola.

Here on this page we'll explain all you need to know about the story and main events as they unfold here, and as with all pages of our walkthrough we'll highlight any and all trainers, items and wild Pokémon available to catch as well.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Hano Grand Resort

Hano Grand Resort is the more 'up-market' of Alola's two big hotels, and with its own private beach attached there's actually a fair bit for you to do here.

At the resort, start by completing a couple of short sidequests by taking part in a pretend wedding with some kids outsite, who'll give you a Rose Incense.

Then talk to the famous Pikachu by the pool to the left of the hotel entrance, and tackle the pesky reporter in battle, and you'll receive a special Z Crystal, Pikanium Z, as a reward. The man with the Pikachu will also teach your Pikachu the move Volt Tackle if you like, which is required for it to use that special Crystal.

Inside, you'll meet the weird man with green glasses, who'll introduce himself as Faba, a major player at the Aether Foundation. You can either head with him to Aether Paradise right away, or do a bit more exploring before you go.

If you choose to stick around a little while longer, there are three more sidequests inside the hotel: show the Pokémon breeder on the left a Pokémon you've levelled up more than 30 levels to get a Footprint Ribbon; defeat the two golfers hassling a Machamp for TM45 Attract; defeat the Veteran with a Murkrow next to her for the item Metronome; finally, use a Z-Move in battle against the Dancer with a Crabrawler to get 5 Full Heals.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Hano Beach

Hano Beach is a fairly significant stretch of land and sea just to the east of Hano Grand Resort. There aere multiple trainers, items, and sidequests here, as well as a few rare Pokémon, so it's worth a quick visit!

Be sure to scour the beach with Stoutland, as there are a whopping six hidden items buried in the sand. Otherwise there are six trainers to battle, all of whom are swimming out in the water.

You can also take part in Pyukumuku throwing, which is a slightly odd activity that actually works like a part-time job. Talk to the man by the lifeguard hut and then go find six Pyukumuku on the beach to throw back into the sea. You can do this once a day, for $20,000 a pop.

If you leave the beach and return, you'll also find a Pyukumuku that's been stranded on the beach on its own. Turns out it's been separated from its partner by people lobbing Pyukumuku, like yours truly! If you track down the other one on the beach, the nearby swimmer will offer you a Big Pearl as thanks.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Aether Foundation

When you're ready, talk to Faba in the hotel to head to Aether Paradise for the first time, the home of Aether Foundation.

This is where Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's story really gets started. Faba will drop you on Aether Paradise with Wicke, the second in command here. She gives you a tour of the area, but note that if you explore the BF1: Docks level by yourself you can find a Rare Candy tucked aware behind some crates at the very top of the room, and get a Stick (an item for Farfetch'd to hold) from one of the employees.

Up on 2F: Conservation Area you'll get more of a tour. Again you'll be left to roam though, so have a wander round until you reach Lusamine, the President of the Aether Foundation, at the very top of the room.

Lusamine's an odd one. Her motivations are slightly unclear - she seems as much a narcissist as a conservationist - and usurprisingly this won't be the last time you two meet.

After a bit of back and forth with her, something very strange happens - an Ultra Wormhole appears!

An Ultra Beast, known just as ??? for now (although you'll recognise it if you played regular Sun and Moon) comes out of the wormhole and attacks. It's up to you to stop it! Ground attacks are your best bet here, dealing 4x damage as the Beast is Rock and Poison-type combined.

When you get it to low enough health the Beast will flee, and then Ultra Recond Squad turn up. After a bit more explanation from them, they'll give you TM29 Psychic. It seems they're working with Lusamine in some fashion, and something to do with Necrozma and Alola's light keeps coming up...
