PlayStation Vita sold 61,000 units during launch in the UK, according to an analyst.
Analyst Nicholas Parker said on his Twitter page: "The PS Vita sold through to UK consumers 61k units in the four days of last week, not the 45k which has been in the press."
He said his source was "reliable".
On Eurogamer sister site GamesIndustry.biz, Parker went into more detail on Vita's UK sales performance, and rejected comparisons with UK figures for the Nintendo 3DS, which sold 113,000 units during its first two days on sale.
If Parker's information is accurate, Vita sold substantially fewer units than its predecessor, the PSP, which shifted 185,000 units during its launch window in 2005 in the UK - a record that still stands today.
In November last year Sony told Eurogamer it would beat PSP's UK launch sales with Vita - subject to supply.
"We're planning for a condition of success," PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan said. "Launch quantities will sell out - I think that's looking pretty certain."
Over 1.2 million Vita consoles have been sold worldwide, according to Sony's internal figures.
PlayStation Vita arrived in North America on 15th February, before European and Australian launches last week.
As of 19th February, 578,812 Vita consoles were sold in Japan.
Vita also previously launched in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea last year, although sales figures for those regions have not been revealed. The majority of the remainder figure - more than 620,000 out of the 1.2 million total - have presumably been sold in the past two weeks.
"PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the reaction we're seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling," said Sony Computer Entertainment boss Andrew House.
