Quantum Break TV episodes will be streamed, not on disc
"We had to backpedal and think of some good solutions."
Quantum Break's episodic live-action TV episodes will be streamed - they won't be on the game's disc.
Developer Remedy has explained that the decision to stream the episodes was taken to save disc and hard drive space (thanks, Game Informer).
You can still download the episodes on Xbox One in 1080p if you choose, although not on PC where the episodes will be 4K.
Streaming was chosen as the main method of delivering the episodes, however, beacuse there are so many different versions of each scene.
Whereas Quantum Break's game levels follow its hero, the time manipulation shooter's TV episodes tell the story of its villain. Story elements are influenced by the gameplay choices you make.
"We have 40 different variations of the show in total where basically your choices get to make it evolve and change whether it's from a junction choice or we have these things called 'Quantum Ripples' which essentially unlocked sort of deleted scenes from the show," Remedy narrative designer Greg Louden said.
"Then combined with that, the show length can change based on your decisions because some episodes are longer as a result and some episodes are shorter. It basically evolves and that's why we needed to stream it.
"When we figured out how big the data was, we had to backpedal and think of some good solutions and this made sense."
