Star Fox Adventures (Cube)
by someone who watched his fiancé play and therefore had some peace and quiet (binky)
Star Fox. I love it. I've always loved it. Barrel rolls, space and that lovable rogue, Falco... It's just good fun. I couldn't wait for a Cube version! Alas, on the run up to its release I was to learn Star Fox Adventures was not to be the game I wanted. Or so I thought.
After flicking through one of my games magazines, my fiancé came to me saying that she really wanted to play Star Fox adventures, and why haven't I got it yet!? Because it looks decidedly average my dear - was my response, and not being an avid gamer she left it at that, mumbling something about - but how would you know if you've only read a few reviews? Girls, eh?
And so it came to pass that I was able to get a copy of Star Fox adventures, thanks in no small part to the wonders of the geekmeet. I handed that game straight to the lady and let her get on with it; and so began 3-4 months of peace and quiet.
I state now that I have not played Fox through, but I have watched my fiancé play the game, and have had to resist the urge to "show her how to do it right" and stick my nose in the way us "REAL" gamers tend to do! I was surprised to see how good the game looked and sounded for something that was quite obviously a girls game, and the few times I had to help out with some of the tougher aspects of the game (namely those "crappy flying bits") I actually thought the controls were fairly good. But all in all it was just generic adventure fare.
However... she enjoyed every minute of it, and for someone that hasn't played many games of this genre it obviously came as something new and in very pretty shoes. Best of all though, I was free to play on the Xbox or use the PC without the usual "you're not playing that stupid Counter-Strike game again are you?!" And for this, Starfox Adventures most definitely deserves...
