Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Ep 2: Head deeper into the town, defeat the barrel boss and find the tower

As Episode 2’s first chapter draws to an close, learn how to defeat the imposing barrel boss and reach the long-awaited Overseer’s tower.

Back out in the night air, proceed along the rusted walkway and take the steps down to the lower level. As you near the blue door at the far end of the yard, a mutant will attack from the beyond the railing to the left. Take him down, then nip out onto the road and liberate the Machine Pistol Ammo from the crate near the burned-out car. Finally, pass on through the blue door.

Inside, there's a workbench which you can use to equip your new Capacity Lv. 1 upgrade. While you're here, take the Gunpowder perched on a shelf nearby. When you're ready to continue, make your way through the door to the right and into the next area.

First, investigate the three doors along the corridor to the left. The far door is locked from the other side, while the first door on the right leads to an area housing the 'Town Resident's Memo' document, as well as some hidden Handgun Ammo by the toilet in the adjacent room. The final door along the left-hand corridor is blocked by a plank, so use Moira's crowbar to prise it open. Inside, you'll find a Parts Box on a shelf amongst the debris, so feel free to return to the workbench and use your new-found Quick Load Lv. 2 upgrade.

Survive the elevator ambush

When you're done, return to the corridor and, this time, move directly ahead. The boarded-up doorway can't be opened until the next chapter, so turn around and push the elevator call button on the wall. Twiddle your thumbs for a short moment, then prepare to bring down the two mutants that spill out of the elevator when it reaches your level.

Once the coast is clear, enter the elevator and hit the button to zip up to the next floor. When you arrive, head on out and grab the Empty Bottle beneath the nearby bench. Next, edge toward the hole in the wall. Before jumping over to the platform opposite, look down and fire a shot at the blue Tower Medallion below.

With that taken care of, leap over to the platform and pass through the blue door. Inside, head along the passageway and prepare for a reunion with Natalia. Once the cut-scene ends, continue forward and follow the corridor around to the right. Grab the Cloth from the nearby shelf, then make your way through the door at the end.

In the next area, there's a crate containing a Green Herb on the ground immediately to your left, as well as some hidden Machine Pistol Ammo and Shotgun Ammo beneath the desks in the centre of the room. There's also a Ruby (250BP) in a desk drawer and an Empty Bottle on a shelf around the other side. Make use of the workbench if you need to, then continue through the next door.

Follow the corridor to the left and make your way down the stairs. Drop down off the ledge, then prepare to tackle two mutants (one of whom is of the hammer-wielding variety) almost immediately. There's not much room to manoeuvre as you face the first hammer-wielding mutant, so a Firebomb or Exploding Bottle can help you out immensely here.

With peace restored, start exploring the next area and grab the Handgun Ammo from the crate around the corner to the right. Unfortunately, there's little time to relax. As you near the centre of room, an extremely powerful mutant will smash through the ceiling above.

How to kill the barrel boss

This beast uses his portable barrel to fire burning debris at you from a distance, and is capable of dealing some serious damage if you get in the way of his charge attack. To make matters worse, he's supported by a constant influx of weaker mutants.

Your best tactic here is to hang as far back as possible and strafe around the large creature in order to side-step his projectile attacks. These are launched shortly after his barrel begins to glow.

Use the moments between projectile strikes to empty as many rounds as possible into the enemy, or to bring down some of the mutants providing support. Firebomb Bottles or Exploding Bottles can help you thin out their ranks, but make sure you keep moving at all times. If you stay still for too long, you'll almost certainly get a fist, a projectile or a mutant in the face.

As you move about, be wary of the exploding mutants at the far end of the room. They deal major damage and can obscure your vision - almost certainly bringing the battle to a premature close.

If your ammo reserves start to run low, take a quick sprint around the room. You'll find more Machine Pistol Ammo on the ground and in crates dotted around the area's perimeter. You can also pinch a handy Green Herb by clambering on top of a cabinet.

Once the boss has been toppled, finish off the remaining mutants in the area, grab any remaining ammo, heal up and then return to the staircase to retrieve Natalia.

How to reach the Overseer's tower

Next, head over to the large brown doors nearby and interact with the hole on the right, enabling Natalia to squeeze on through and unlock the doors from the other side.

Back in the fresh night air, take a right and start making your way along the road ahead. You'll shortly reach the base of the Overseer's tower and, after some significant commotion, the chapter will draw to a close - one Gabe, one helicopter and one Natalia down.
