RuneScape 3 attracts over 300,000 new players
Over 100,000 former players re-activate their accounts.
The launch of the third iteration of MMO RuneScape has attracted over 300,000 new players, developer Jagex has announced.
Over 100,000 former players have re-activated their accounts, the Cambridge-based studio revealed.
In total, new, existing and returning players have resulted in 600,000 hours of gameplay being played per day.
RuneScape is, according to the Guinness World Records, the world's most popular free-to-play MMORPG, with over 200 million players over its lifetime. What that means, exactly, is that more than 220 million player accounts have been created since RuneScape launched in 2001.
RuneScape 3 launched on 22 July. Jagex is also making the upcoming Transformers Universe MMO.
