Sam & Max heading to XBLA
PSN versions not ruled out for future.
Not content with announcing Wallace & Gromit for Xbox Live Arcade, Telltale has decided to follow it up with the first two seasons of Sam & Max.
Both will be released as single entities, by the sound of it, rather than split back into episodes. Season One will be rebranded Sam & Max Save the World, while Season Two becomes Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space.
"We've been finding that 'Season One' and 'Season Two', while an excellent way to message that our games are episodic, are kind of nondescript when you're browsing at the store," marketing coordinator Emily Morganti explained. "Because our games are all about the story, we wanted to come up with something that hinted a bit more about the quest you're about to embark on.
"And as a series continues, we really don't want someone to pass up the newest game because they think they'll be missing out on what happened in a previous season."
For the time being, there's no word on a release date, but Morganti added: "like Wallace & Gromit, we've passed the 'someday' phase and entered the 'soon'!"
There's also no immediate word on whether PSN versions will follow. However, in a further comment on the Telltale blog post announcing the XBLA versions, Morganti said that the recent glut of Wii and 360 versions was down to an engine upgrade in late 2007 rather than a selective approach.
"For all the people who have been asking about PS3 - we hear you! But these things take time and resources, and even if we are expanding like crazy, we are still just a bunch of human beings, and we do need to sleep sometimes," she wrote. "We are definitely interested in PlayStation (as well as other platforms) but Rome wasn't built in a day."
