SEGA encouraged by Vanquish sales
But admits it faces a "challenge".
SEGA's "reasonably encouraged" by sales of PlatinumGames' superb third-person shooter Vanquish, but cautioned that it's too early to judge.
Shinji Mikami's Vanquish went in at 12 in the UK all-formats chart following its release last Friday.
According to a report from SEGA Bits, first day Japanese sales were 56,000.
"It's been in the marketplace for two days, we've seen the day one numbers and we're reasonably encouraged, but I think we need to see the rest of week one and probably week two just to see how it's going to play out," SEGA West boss Mike Hayes told IGN.
"The challenge is that it's a new franchise and that it's releasing head-to-head with a lot of established franchises in the busiest time of the year."
Vanquish released on the same day as DJ Hero 2, Fallout: New Vegas, EA Sports MMA and the new Professor Layton game.
Sales aside, PlatinumGames will no doubt be pleased with the reception from critics. Eurogamer awarded it 9/10 and voted it last week's Game of the Week.
