Serious Sam 4 is now launching in September

On PC and Stadia.

Following Croteam's previous assertions that Serious Sam 4 would be making its way to Steam and Stadia this August, there's been some shuffling of papers and release date revisions, with the developer now announcing a new launch date of 24th September.

If you're looking for some vestiges of plot to hang your breathless FPS action onto in the name of context, here's Croteam now: "Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental's hordes spreads across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilisation." Luckily, help is at hand courtesy of the Earth Defense Force, led by, would you believe it, Sam "Serious" Stone and his commando chums.

As for what this fourth mainline outing will bring, Croteam hasn't shared a massive amounts of information (although you can peruse a bunch of gameplay videos on Serious Sam 4's Steam landing page), so it seems very much as if it'll be business as usual for Sam and pals.

Expect chaotic gunplay against screaming alien hordes - the familiar likes of the Headless Kamikaze, Beheaded Rocketeer, Kleer, Scrapjack, and Werebull are all confirmed to return, alongside newcomers such as the Processed and Belcher - which, based on previous word, will be attending in significantly greater numbers than ever before. Croteam has promised "battlefields teeming with thousands of enemies", courtesy of its new Legion system.

Serious Sam 4 will cost around £30/$39.99 USD when it comes to Stadia and Steam on 24th September. Croteam previously confirmed PlayStation and Xbox versions won't now arrive until 2021, as a result of publisher Devolver Digital's timed-exclusivity deal with Stadia.
