Shenmue - Motorcycle rescue and beating the 70 Man Battle

How to find the motorcycle and beat the 70 Man Battle.

Motorcycle rescue and the 70 Man Battle are two climatic encounters after tackling the harbour job and Mad Angels.

If you're looking for help with other parts of the game, our Shenmue guide and walkthrough and list of Shenmue tips can help.

Motorbike rescue

After your fifth day on the job, there is a night time emergency, and you have to Warehouse No 17 by 3:30am.

Head to Sakuragoaka - it's the residential area before Dobuita - and head north-east (or turn right at the Abe Store) where there is a motorcycle.

Press the intercom to the left of the motorcycle will lend it you.

Next is a motorcycle ride down to the harbour, which has to be completed with a time limit. This is a particularly difficult section, but the good news is if you mess it up, you can try again until you get it right. Our advice is to let go of the accelerator on corners, and only using the brake on corners towards the end, when you are in the tunnel.

When successful, you'll have several waves of a Free Battle with the Mad Angels inside the warehouse. Once done, you'll head home.

The day after the motorcycle rescue

At the harbour the next day, you'll be let go from your Forklight shifts, and have to kill time until 10pm that evening. In the morning, kill time until 12pm (it's optional, but we recommend chatting to familiar faces around the harbour, as it's your last day to do so) then visit Tom at his Hot Dog stand, where he'll teach you the move Tornado Kick, which has the following steps:

Xbox / Dreamcast: Left, Left A, then Left, Left, A, A for the full move
PlayStation: Left, Left X, then Left, Left, X, X for the full move

After this, time skips to 10pm.

After some more Shenmue tips? Our full Shenmue walkthrough will guide you through ever step of the main story, from the Three Blades, to where to find Charlie, Warehouse No 8 and where to use the Mysterious Key. And, of course, exactly where to find sailors. We also have pages on Shemue's various extracurricular activities, like feeding the kitten, winning forklift races, Shenmue flashback locations, a full Shenmue Trophy and Achievements and Capsule Toys lists, too.

Beating the 70 Man Battle

To start with, you'll face Gui Zhang in a Free Battle. Don't worry about beating him - you just have to keep fighting until a cutscene with the following QTE occurs:

Right

Now it's time for the 70 Man Battle to begin. This is a huge brawl against, you guessed it, 70 enemies. Thankfully, you don't face them at once, instead arriving in waves, and Gui Zhang is on hand to help.

Most of the enemies are also pretty easy to take down, which makes life easier. Of course, the key is not being overwhelmed. Running and kicking is our go-to attack, but mixing it up with varied fast attacks is recommended.

If you are low on health, you can regenerate it by avoiding being attacked, where it'll creep back up over time. The easiest way to do this running in a circle. Cheap? Yes - but so is fighting 70 combatants. Note that running for too long will tire you out and leave you open to attack - so consider just backing away from enemies if you want to recover health, too.

You'll have to move to another area at some point, and there are also bosses along the way. You'll want to fight the minions first before taking these guys down, otherwise you'll likely be overwhelmed.

The last to enter is the 'final' boss - a very tall and powerful boss. Thankfully he's on the slow side, allowing you to dodge attacks easier than most enemies. You can choose to go all-in and pummel with attacks so he cannot retaliate, or dodge at a fair distance and pick and choose your moments. The latter is also useful to recover health, and don't forget the cheap 'run around in a circle' trick now and again to recover health, too.

Once done, you'll have a QTE with Terry:

Xbox / Dreamcast: A
PlayStation: X

What follows is another cutscene, and what is the final evening in the game. Almost there!
