Smash Bros. Wii U includes gorgeous Mario Galaxy HD level
My god, it's full of stars.
Nintendo has shown off Super Mario Galaxy in HD - as a level for Smash Bros. Wii U.
The stage gives us our first official look at how Nintendo's Galaxy sub-series might look in HD.
"A new stage, Mario Galaxy!", series creator Masahiro Sakurai wrote on Miiverse today. "The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics."
The level includes the Planet Mario hub world from Mario Galaxy 2, although is itself based on one of the game's first spherical planets. Whether gameplay will continue all the way around the surface is unknown.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto explained yesterday in a new Iwata Asks interview that Nintendo's recent focus on 3DS title Mario 3D Land and upcoming Wii U platformer Mario 3D World did not mean the Galaxy series has been forgotten.
"I should point out that this doesn't mean we'll never make another Super Mario Galaxy game," Miyamoto explained. "The same team can't make both at the same time," Miyamoto said. "And we can't bring in a second party and slap the name Super Mario Galaxy on it. I suppose we could idealistically make both in Tokyo, but we want to do something new too, so there was that dilemma."
