Someone is remaking the GoldenEye 007 single-player campaign in Unreal Engine 4
GoldenEye: Source Natalya hoped for?
Someone is remaking the single-player campaign from legendary N64 shooter GoldenEye 007 in Unreal Engine 4.
The project is called GoldenEye 25 - so named because it's scheduled for completion alongside GoldenEye 007's 25th anniversary four years from now (2022)! But there's already a glimpse at what it could like.
GoldenEye 25 sounds like it's the work of one person: 3D artist Ben Colclough, who lives in Kentucky, US. "Many people primarily played GE64 for the multiplayer," he told The Bond Bulletin earlier this year. "I actually spent most of my time in single-player. The single-player design is so amazing yet there hasn't been a great remake for the campaign."
Colclough, like so many other GoldenEye 007 fans, had pinned his hopes on GoldenEye 007 Xbox Live Arcade being the remake of his dreams but, as we know, that project was cancelled. He had also hoped the popular GoldenEye: Source mod might take on the single-player campaign, in addition to the multiplayer modes it offers, but it never did, so Colclough took things into his own hands.
Colclough has GoldenEye: Source composer Yannick "GoldenZen" Zennhausen on board for the music but no one else, from what I can see. He's got a long way to go!
Rare's GoldenEye seems tied up in all manner of copyright and IP ownership knots. In 2010 the Eurocom-developed, Activision-published Wii game GoldenEye 007 came out, which itself was remastered the following year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Might a full-blown - and official - remaster for current platforms one day see the light of day?
